The defendant also pleaded no contest to a pair of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/doj-announces-hate-crimes-and-bias-related-initiatives-including-reporting-hotline\/\" title=\"DOJ Announces \u201cHate Crimes and Bias-Related\u201d Initiatives, Including Reporting Hotline\">bias-motivated crimes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Plea Deal and Sentencing<\/h3>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.koaa.com\/news\/club-q-shooting\/club-q-suspected-mass-shooter-to-be-arraigned-enter-plea-monday-morning\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">read by Judge Michael McHenry<\/a>, the plea deal calls for five <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/he-spent-20-years-in-prison-for-a-double-murder-he-didnt-commit-dna-evidence-exonerated-him\/\" title=\"He Spent 20 Years In Prison For A Double Murder He Didn\u2019t Commit. DNA Evidence Exonerated Him.\">consecutive life sentences<\/a> without the possibility of parole for the five murder charges and 46 consecutive 48-year sentences followed by mandatory parole for the attempted murder counts.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The defendant, who during court proceedings has identified as \u201cnon-binary\u201d and used the pronouns \u201cthey\/them,\u201d agreed to the terms as the judge outlined the plea deal in court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI intentionally and after deliberation caused the death of each [of the] victims listed in those counts,\u201d the defendant said. \u201cWith the attempted first degree murder counts, with intent to commit murder in the first degree took a substantial step toward committing murder in the first degree of each of those victims.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked about the bias-motivated crimes, the defendant said, \u201cBecause of the evidence presented, I believe that there is a high probability of being convicted at trial to those counts and so I\u2019m pleading no contest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After going through the plea agreement, the judge said he was moving to sentencing and instructed the media to stop recording or live-streaming. Reporters said the reading of impact statements for the victims and survivors <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AshleyPorteeyo\/status\/1673349329917186048\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">began shortly thereafter<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Details of the Attack<\/h3>\n<p>The defendant is accused of killing five people at Club Q last November while armed with an AR-style rifle and a handgun and wearing a ballistic vest. The attack also resulted in more than a dozen others being injured. Patrons managed to subdue the suspect until police arrived, according to accounts from witnesses and officials.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The five victims who were killed have been identified as Daniel Davis Aston, Kelly Loving, Ashley Paugh, Derrick Rump, and Raymond Green Vance.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Motivation and Prosecution<\/h3>\n<p>Prosecutors, who initially lodged more than 300 charges, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/detective-testifies-non-binary-colorado-springs-shooter-ran-neo-nazi-site\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">argued their evidence showed<\/a> the defendant had an \u201caversion to the LGBTQ community\u201d and was inspired by what Detective Rebecca Joines described as a \u201cneo-Nazi white supremacist\u201d shooting training video.
