min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>By 1010 GMT, the rouble was 0.2% stronger against the dollar at 84.53 , recovering after hitting 87.2300 in early trade, its weakest point since March, 2022. <\/p>\n<p>It had gained 0.3% to trade at 92.07 versus the euro and firmed 0.5% against the yuan to 11.66, also recovering after hitting its lowest in more than two months against both currencies.<\/p>\n<p>Mercenaries led by Yevgeny Prigozhin withdrew from the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don overnight on Saturday under a deal that halted their rapid advance on Moscow but left questions about President Vladimir Putin\u2019s grip on power.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPolitics is again having a negative impact on investors\u2019 mood,\u201d said Alexey Antonov of Alor Broker. \u201cThe peak of tensions has passed, but an unpleasant residue will linger for some time.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>With the rouble not trading over the weekend, Russian banks had offered exchange rates well above the official rate beyond 90 to the dollar, but those were gradually easing as tensions subsided. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe rouble in the cash market sold off sharply on Saturday with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/rouble-pares-losses-after-slumping-to-15-month-low-following-aborted-mutiny\/\" title=\"Rouble recovers after hitting 15-month low due to failed mutiny.\">buy\/offer spreads widening<\/a> out substantially,\u201d said Goldman Sachs in a note.<\/p>\n<p>But Russian authorities have plenty of resources to support the currency, Goldman Sachs said, viewing fiscal finances as the most important determinant of the currency\u2019s moves. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cShould the response to the events over the weekend be additional spending, we think this would be followed by a weaker rouble.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>First Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov said demand for foreign currency had increased sharply over the weekend in about 15 regions. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn average, it was about 30%, but most active growth in demand for cash was recorded in southern regions \u2013 in Voronezh, Rostov and Lipetsk, as well as in large cities,\u201d Belousov said. \u201cDemand there increased by about 70-80%.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Investors globally were watching for ripple effects from the aborted mutiny, with some expecting a move into safe havens such as U.S. government bonds and the dollar.<\/p>\n<p>Brent crude oil, a global benchmark for Russia\u2019s main export, was up 0.4% at $74.17 a barrel.<\/p>\n<p>Russian stock indexes were lower. <\/p>\n<p>Sinara Investment Bank said Friday evening\u2019s \u201cunexpected and dramatic events\u201d had provoked a sell-off, but the situation\u2019s swift resolution over the weekend meant a further selling spree was unlikely.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMarket participants may be cautious for some time,\u201d Sinara said. <\/p>\n<p>The dollar-denominated RTS index was down 0.9% to 1,030.1 points.
