We\u2019ve said this over and over: It can make it nearly impossible to get out in time,\u201d Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Firefighters returned to the scene on Thursday and Friday because fire had broken out again, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ny1.com\/nyc\/all-boroughs\/public-safety\/2023\/06\/24\/third-fire-in-four-days-breaks-out-inside-same-e-bike-shop-in-manhattan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NY1<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cOnce again, smoke is coming out of the building, so I guess something else is on fire,\u201d Gilbert\u00a0Dipiano, who lives near the shop, said. \u201cThey had another small fire across the street there just a day ago. Now, it\u2019s something else happening. It\u2019s very scary.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cYou gotta be precautious because you never know when a fire can break and with these e-bikes. People are afraid in the area now. They\u2019re afraid to live above one, so people need to be more precautious in the area now,\u201d Dipiano said.<\/p>\n<p>The Times report said that batteries for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/fire-officials-issue-warning-electric-bike-sparks-blaze-killing-child-teenager\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">e-bikes<\/a> are of particular concern because batteries for smaller objects, such as cell phones, are too small to cause much damage, while those in electric vehicles are subject to more regulation and quality control.<\/p>\n<p>Victoria Hutchison, a senior research project manager at the\u00a0Fire Protection Research Foundation, said low-quality and potentially unsafe charges and batteries have flooded the market.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s really the root of the problem,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Nikhil Gupta, a professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at\u00a0New York University\u2019s Tandon School of Engineering said that the demand for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/a-deadly-crisis-electric-bikes-wreak-havoc-in-nyc-as-city-faces-fires-deaths\/\" title=\"Electric bikes cause chaos in NYC with fires and fatalities.\">increased power carries increased risk<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe problem is that we\u2019re trying to squeeze too much energy out of these batteries, and that makes them more dangerous,\u201d Gupta said.<\/p>\n<p>In September, New York City will ban e-bikes and similar devices that do not <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-admin-knew-the-baby-formula-shortage-was-coming-in-february\/\" title=\"Biden Admin Knew The Baby Formula Shortage Was Coming In February\">meet safety standards<\/a>. On Sunday, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/new-e-bike-safety-measures-in-nyc-after-deadly-chinatown-fire\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CBS<\/a>, city and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/three-whitmer-plot-suspects-now-face-weapon-of-mass-destruction-charges\/\" title=\"Three Whitmer Plot Suspects Now Face Weapon Of Mass Destruction Charges\">federal officials announced<\/a> that tax dollars would be spent to create more safe charging stations.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>But New York City\u2019s fire commissioner remains concerned, according to the Times.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have very, very serious concerns in the short term.
