If the traffic is curbed, as so many New Yorkers urge, then the sirens can be modified as well. This is the moment,\u201d she wrote, throwing support behind the concept of limiting any kind of traffic on multiple city streets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot only would quiet streets be productive for neighborhoods, they would offer a route to rethinking deployment of emergency vehicles, which would be able to move more freely \u2014 albeit carefully \u2014 while employing far less aggressive sirens. Without traffic registering 80 decibels and above, sirens would have no justification for their now excessive levels of 120 decibels,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Douglas Kupas, EMS medical director for Geisinger EMS in central Pennsylvania, said that \u201cMost of the things that are time-dependent are a very tiny minority of the EMS calls,\u201d according to a 2021 report in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/10\/19\/us\/sirens-noise-ambulances-fire-department-police.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The New York Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Yet when he researched responses, he found an increase in the use of sirens.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Jeff Clawson, founder of the\u00a0International Academies of Emergency Dispatch\u00a0in Salt Lake City, said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/nyc-crackdown-shoplifting-makes-easier-first-time-offender-thieves-will-kiosks-store\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">siren noise<\/a> was \u00a0said was a \u201cpublic health dilemma.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt feels good and it feels like it works,\u201d he said. \u201cWhen it\u2019s embedded in an institution \u2014 and a fire department is as good-ol\u2019-boy an institution as you can get \u2014 it can be difficult to change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The post <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/democrats-trying-get-rid-iconic-american-city-sound-introduce-european-style-alternative\/\">Democrats Trying to Get Rid of Iconic American City Sound, Introduce European-Style Alternative<\/a> appeared first on <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\">The Western Journal<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A proposal in New York City aims to reduce noise for emergency responders.
