BROWN\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>OAN\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.oann.com\/tag\/brooke-mallory\">Brooke Mallory<\/a><br \/>11:09 AM \u2013 Sunday, June 25, 2023<\/p>\n<p>Three San Antonio police officers have been charged with murder for shooting a woman who the city\u2019s police chief described as having a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/9-year-old-girl-pepper-sprayed-during-interaction-with-rochester-police\/\" title=\"9-Year-Old Girl Pepper Sprayed During Interaction With Rochester Police\">mental health crisis<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1\" style=\"min-width: 320px; min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>Police Chief William McManus said that Sgt. Alfred Flores and Officers Eleazar Alejandro and Nathaniel Villalobos were suspended without pay and are now arrested on murder charges in the shooting death of 46-year-old Melissa Perez, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/3-san-antonio-officers-charged-with-murder-after-killing-woman-during-mental-health-crisis\/\" title=\"3 San Antonio officers face murder charges for killing woman during mental health crisis.\">reportedly defied police demands<\/a> to come out of her residence.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThe officers\u2019 actions were not consistent with SAPD\u2019s policy and training,\u201d McManus said during a news conference. \u201cThey placed themselves in a situation where they used deadly force, which was not reasonable given all the circumstances as we now understand them,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to McManus, one of the three charged cops opened fire after Perez first hurled a glass candlestick at the officers and then swung a hammer at them. When Perez approached them again with the hammer, two police officers shot her, according to McManus.<\/p>\n<p>The names of the attorneys who will reportedly testify on behalf of the three cops were not included in court documents or press briefings.<\/p>\n<p>Perez was accused of disconnecting the wires to a fire alarm at the apartment complex and was speaking with fire officials at 12:30 a.m. on Friday when an officer arrived and tried to persuade her to move toward his police car to talk, according to McManus.<\/p>\n<p>Perez was having a conversation with a fire department employee outside the complex when an unnamed officer arrived and can be heard on body camera video saying, \u201cHey lady, get over here!\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Perez refused and walked away from the officer.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cIt appeared that Miss Perez was having a mental health crisis,\u201d McManus said without offering further explanation.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The video then showed an officer removing a window screen from Perez\u2019s apartment terrace while Perez yelled \u201cstop it\u201d and \u201cyou ain\u2019t got no warrant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The unidentified officer shouted, \u201cYou\u2019re going to get shot,\u201d which prompted Perez to yell back at the officer, saying \u201cShoot me\u2014you ain\u2019t got no warrant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Later, the sound of glass shattering was heard, followed by two volleys of gunfire.<\/p>\n<p>McManus declined to answer any further questions, citing ongoing investigations into the incident by the police department\u2019s Internal Affairs and Civil Rights divisions, as well as the Civil Rights Division of the Bexar County District Attorney\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n<p>Other police officers were at the scene as well, but none are anticipated to be prosecuted.
