The plane was reportedly taxying to its gate when the incident occurred, according to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cAn accident occurred on the ground at San Antonio International Airport (SAT) tonight that resulted in the fatality of an airline ground crew member,\u201d the airport said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/06\/25\/san-antonio-airport-worker-killed-after-being-sucked-into-delta-jet-engine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>. \u201cWe are deeply saddened by this incident and are working with authorities as they begin their investigation. We will share more information as details become available.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The victim, who hasn\u2019t been identified, was employed by Unfi Aviation, a ground handling and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/texas-airport-worker-killed-after-being-ingested-into-jet-engine\/\" title=\"Texas airport worker dies after being sucked into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/taliban-china-wants-to-beef-up-relations-with-us\/\" title=\"Taliban: China Wants To \u2018Beef Up\u2019 Relations With Us\">jet engine<\/a>.&#8221;>aviation services company based<\/a> out of Atlanta and contracted by Delta. The company said it was \u201cdeeply saddened by the loss of our employee\u201d in the \u201ctragic\u201d accident.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cOur hearts go out to the family of the deceased, and we remain focused on supporting our employees on the ground and ensuring they are being taken care of during this time,\u201d Unfi added.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">NTSB officials confirmed on Saturday that the worker was \u201cingested\u201d into the jet engine and said they were in contact with Delta investigating the accident. Unfi Aviation says the death was no fault of their policies or operations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cFrom our initial investigation, this incident was unrelated to Unifi\u2019s operational processes, safety procedures and policies,\u201d the company said. \u201cOut of respect for the deceased, we will not be sharing any additional information. While police and other officials continue to investigate this incident, we defer to them on providing further details.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-stringify-type=\"bold\"><\/b><\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/flightaware.com\/live\/flight\/DAL1111\/history\/20230624\/0057Z\/KLAX\/KSAT\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">data<\/a> from FlightAware, the airplane involved was Delta flight 1111, an Airbus A319 aircraft with 132 passenger seats.<\/p>\n<h3>Similar Tragedy in the Past<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On New Year\u2019s Eve, Courtney Edwards, a mother of three, was sucked into an American Airlines jet engine at Montgomery Regional Airport in Alabama. Edwards <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/airport-horror-as-baggage-handler-dies-after-being-sucked-through-jet-engine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">worked<\/a> for Piedmont Airlines, a subsidiary of American. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Occupational Safety and Health Administration fined Piedmont $15,625 in June after the agency found the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/joe-biden-drops-travel-restrictions-on-african-countries-wh-says-it-wont-slow-omicron-in-usa\/\" title=\"Joe Biden Drops Travel Restrictions\u00a0on African Countries \u2014 WH Says It Won't Slow Omicron in USA\">airline company<\/a> was at fault.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Incidents like these are extremely rare. Powerful fans and compressors \u201csuck\u201d air through jet engines, and during takeoff, 1.2 tons of air per second can be taken in, <a href=\"https:\/\/cs.stanford.edu\/people\/eroberts\/courses\/ww2\/projects\/jet-airplanes\/how.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according<\/a> to Stanford University.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Delta Air Lines jet at San Antonio International Airport tragically claimed the life of a ground crew member.
