Anderson was one of the scientists who helped to draft the \u201cThe Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2\u201d paper that cast doubt on earlier theories that COVID may have escaped from a lab.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWe are following the breadcrumbs of a COVID-19 cover-up straight to the source. U.S. Officials Are Pushing Back.\">lab leak hypothesis<\/a>, and Americans deserve to know why this happened, who was involved, and how we can prevent the intentional suppression of scientific discourse during a future pandemic,\u201d Wenstrup said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/release\/wenstrup-announces-first-subpoena-for-proximal-origins-author-kristian-andersens-private-communications-with-co-authors%EF%BF%BC\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/washington-post-backs-insane-journo-taylor-lorenz\/\" title=\"Washington Post Backs Insane Journo Taylor Lorenz\">widely criticized article<\/a> co-authored by Anderson, published in March 2020, said that it was clear that COVID was not developed in a lab. \u201cOur analyses clearly show that SARS-CoV-2 is not a laboratory construct or a purposefully manipulated virus,\u201d the abstract of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41591-020-0820-9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">article<\/a> says.<\/p>\n<p>Since that time, multiple reports, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/new-intel-prompts-energy-dept-to-assess-covid-likely-leaked-from-wuhan-lab-report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reports from the Department of Energy<\/a> and Senate Republicans, have suggested that the once <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-republicans-subpoena-author-of-paper-that-derided-covid-lab-leak-theory\/\" title=\"House Republicans subpoena author who criticized COVID lab leak theory.\">widely mocked lab leak theory appears<\/a> to be increasingly plausible.<\/p>\n<p>The subcommittee <a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Andersen-Kristian-subpoena_06.23.23.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hopes to obtain<\/a> Slack messages sent or received by Anderson pertaining to the drafting, publication, and critical reception of the paper. They also asked for messages and documentation on the Wuhan Coronavirus Lab, gain of function research, and other discussions of the pandemic\u2019s origin.<\/p>\n<p>Messages from Anthony Fauci, Francis Collins, and a number of other scientists are also requested by the subcommittee.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIt is clear that the authors of \u2018Proximal Origins\u2019 may have possessed conflicts of interest for supporting a zoonotic origin of COVID-19.
