Christian Googlers are troubled that their employer would promote a performance that features openly anti-Christian themes.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-2019369679\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-e891b80287505923020f6308c6dd2e69 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-e891b80287505923020f6308c6dd2e69\"><\/div>\n<p>The event, scheduled for June 27, is hosted by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/university-of-arkansas-dropped-10k-on-virtual-drag-show-for-students\/\" title=\"University Of Arkansas Dropped K On Virtual Drag Show For Students\">drag performer<\/a> who goes by the stage name <a href=\"https:\/\/www.peacheschrist.com\/aboutus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Peaches Christ<\/a>. As the name indicates, the performer openly mocks Christians. The event will be held at Beaux SF, a San Francisco lounge that regularly features strippers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sfbaytimes.com\/sisters-perpetual-indulgence-celebrate-40th-anniversary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Named<\/a> a \u201csaint\u201d by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, Peaches\u2019 past events include emceeing this year\u2019s annual <a href=\"https:\/\/sf.funcheap.com\/city-guide\/sfs-easter-park-hunky-jesus-contest-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cHunky Jesus\u201d<\/a> contest, hosted by the Sisters on Easter Sunday \u2014 the holiest day in the Christian calendar. In addition, for over a decade, Peaches hosted a <a href=\"https:\/\/mn2s.com\/booking-agency\/talent-roster\/peaches-christ\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cMidnight Mass\u201d <\/a>event, playing off an obvious reference to solemn worship services.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Chilling Effect on Religious Expression<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Michael Harrington, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/microsoft-president-solarwinds-hack-biggest-ever\/\" title=\"Microsoft President: SolarWinds hack biggest ever\">software engineer<\/a>, said he has enjoyed working at Google for over five years. He praised the company\u2019s culture of open discussion, debate, and criticism, but said he feels the company\u2019s decision to include the June 27 event and promote it to employees crosses \u201can uncrossable line.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI joined Google to be an engineer, not an activist,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-3d508df47e0abb151217097a8e163e62 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-3d508df47e0abb151217097a8e163e62\"><\/div>\n<p>But he feels the situation is having \u201ca reverse chilling effect, an emboldening effect that is, on willingness to attack Christians in the workplace in general.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Harrington is among many Googlers to have filed a formal complaint with PeopleOps over the past three weeks. The only response they received was an acknowledgment of the complaint and assurance it would be investigated.<\/p>\n<p>Staff software engineer Tom Turney drafted a petition dated June 14 which, to date, has obtained several hundred signatures while circulating around the company. The petition explains that the event is deeply offensive to Christian employees. It requests that the event be canceled and a public apology be offered by the organizers and promoters.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It also outlines ways in which the event violates Google protocol. Among its objections, the petition discusses the event\u2019s violation of company policy on \u201cinclusiveness\u201d and \u201cappropriateness.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-60ce3a5536470759bff0d6a36f3015a0 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-60ce3a5536470759bff0d6a36f3015a0\"><\/div>\n<p>According to this policy, company activities are required to be \u201cinclusive\u201d and maintain a \u201cpositive work environment.\u201d It goes on to state that \u201cteam events that result in certain team members feeling isolated could violate these policies and, potentially, applicable laws.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Google policy also prohibits activities that include \u201cadult entertainment (including overt, sexually explicit activity \u2026) where one can pay for sexual activity irrespective of whether the participants are using their own money or company funds.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Clearly, this explicitly sexualized event and its executive promotion are not creating a \u201cpositive work environment\u201d at Google.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the petition highlights that mockery of religion can be considered <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eeoc.gov\/harassment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">harassment<\/a> under the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. As Harrington observed, the promotion of this event may have already led to some employees feeling harassed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/religiousfreedomandbusiness.org\/googles-inter-belief-network\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Inter Belief Network<\/a> \u2014 the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/google-union-launches-drop-the-deadnames-petition-after-transgender-worker-had-id-badge-name-change-request-denied\/\" title=\"Google Union Launches \u2018Drop The Deadnames\u2019 Petition After Transgender Worker Had ID Badge Name Change Request Denied\">employee resource group<\/a> that provides a voice to Google employees of religious or belief-related communities \u2014 hasn\u2019t taken action on this glaring issue. This suggests that a chilling effect may already be in operation \u2014 Googlers with religious beliefs appear afraid to protest a clearly belief-demeaning event.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Google Shifts Calendar, Not Support <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>While the overtly offensive nature of an event featuring a performer mocking thousands of employees\u2019 religious beliefs should be obvious, Google isn\u2019t apologizing for its decision to include and promote the event.<\/p>\n<p>When asked whether the company would respond to employee complaints and cancel the event or apologize for promoting it, a spokesman responded:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>We\u2019ve long been very proud to celebrate and support the LGBTQ+ community. Our Pride celebrations have regularly featured drag artists for many years, including several this year. This particular event was booked without going through our standard events process. While the event organizers have shifted the official Google event onsite, the performance will go on at the planned venue \u2014 and it\u2019s open to the public, so employees can still attend.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The event was then removed from the calendar and replaced. However, the new company onsite social event scheduled for June 27 will take place well before the lounge event, which remains \u201copen to the public.\u201d Later that evening following the removal of the event, a response was finally sent to employees who had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/homeland-security-there-are-still-more-than-15000-migrant-children-in-united-states-custody\/\" title=\"Homeland Security: There Are Still More Than 15,000 Migrant Children In United States Custody\">filed official complaints<\/a>, communicating the information in the spokesman\u2019s statement above.<\/p>\n<p>It seems as if Christian Googlers will receive no apology. Rather, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/google-attacks-christians-in-the-workplace-with-blasphemous-drag-event\/\" title=\"Google's Drag Event Disrespects Christian Employees\">strip lounge drag event mocking<\/a> their beliefs will be promoted quietly instead of officially.<\/p>\n<p>There are a variety of ways the company could choose to recognize pride month \u2014 indeed, it has <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.google\/outreach-initiatives\/diversity\/pride-2023\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sponsored<\/a> and promoted several pride-centered causes throughout June already. However, rather than simply celebrating its LGBT employees, Google has crossed the line into discrimination <em>against<\/em> its Christian employees.<\/p>\n<p>Surely, this type of anti-religious mockery is beneath one of the most prestigious corporations in our country.
