Version: 4.0.47--><h2>Flashback: OceanGate CEO Admits Unsettling Fact About the Titanic Sub<\/h2>\n<p>Stockton Rush, the CEO of OceanGate Inc. and the man who was piloting the Titan submersible Sunday when it imploded near the Titanic, admitted in a 2021 interview that he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fulton-county-election-board-votes-to-fire-election-director-after-2020-dysfunction\/\" title=\"Fulton County Election Board Votes To Fire Election Director After 2020 \u2018Dysfunction\u2019\">cut corners<\/a> on the vessel.<\/p>\n<p>Rush died on June 18 along with his four passengers as he steered his company\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/tv-host-backed-oceangate-titan-dive-cites-history-sub-not-made-public\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Titan submersible<\/a> with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sealed-in-with-a-game-controller-inside-the-missing-titanic-sub\/\" title=\"Sealed In With A Game Controller: Inside The Missing Titanic Sub\">video game controller<\/a>, the U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/missing-titanic-submersible-passengers-6616175a166cda894a83d7ebe21a6aa4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Coast Guard<\/a> said Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The 61-year-old adventurer was just hundreds of yards from the bow of the Titanic\u2019s wreckage when the Titan imploded and presumably killed all aboard instantly.<\/p>\n<p>In the days since a hectic search by both U.S. and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-touts-closing-loophole-canadian-border-just-one-major-problem-proposal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Canadian<\/a> authorities began, a lot has come out about Rush and his company.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview last year with YouTuber Alan Estrada, he said he wanted to be remembered as an \u201cinnovator.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In designing the small craft differently from a traditional submersible, Rush told Estrada, \u201cI\u2019ve broken some rules to make this, I think I\u2019ve broken them with logic and good engineering behind me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also touched on some of the materials that went into building the Titan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe carbon fiber and titanium, there\u2019s a rule you don\u2019t do that \u2014 well I did,\u201d Rush said.<\/p>\n<p>According to a 2017 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tc.faa.gov\/its\/worldpac\/techrpt\/tctn17-42.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">government report<\/a> from the Federal Aviation Administration and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/time-fire-buttigieg-biden-accidentally-throws-floundering-transportation-sec-bus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Department of Transportation<\/a>, mixing carbon fiber and titanium can be a recipe for failure if the two are not used properly in conjunction with other materials.<\/p>\n<p>The presence of salt water and an electrical connection between the two can lead to rapid corrosion of the titanium.<\/p>\n<p>But the cause of the Titan\u2019s implosion is still not known.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/live-missing-titanic-submarine-update-coast-guard-officials\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Coast Guard<\/a> still has ships at the scene of the Titanic\u2019s wreckage evaluating the Titan\u2019s debris field for clues about what went wrong.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kiro7.com\/news\/local\/ive-broken-some-rules-make-this-oceangate-ceo\/YIK2QG4QB5HIDO4L57D6SPDN6E\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KIRO-TV<\/a> also reported that Rush claimed the craft was designed in collaboration with NASA, Boeing and the University of Washington\u2019s Applied Physics Laboratory.<\/p>\n<p>Each institution has since denied it was behind the design and\/or construction of the doomed submersible.<\/p>\n<p>Rush also complained about regulations on the commercial submarine industry during an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithsonianmag.com\/innovation\/worlds-first-deep-diving-submarine-plans-tourists-see-titanic-180972179\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Smithsonian Magazine<\/a> in June 2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere hasn\u2019t been an injury in the commercial sub industry in over 35 years,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s obscenely safe, because they have all these regulations. But it also hasn\u2019t innovated or grown \u2014 because they have all these regulations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Titan ultimately abandoned traditional submarine-building methods in favor of Rush\u2019s design.<\/p>\n<h3>Reactions to the Disaster<\/h3>\n<p>The CEO also said previously he did not want his company staffed with \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/media\/oceangate-ceo-explains-why-he-didnt-want-hire-50-year-old-white-guys-pilot-subs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">50-year-old white guys<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In spite of a desire to further innovation at perhaps the expense of safety, Rush was being remembered by some as a man who simply wanted to explore.<\/p>\n<p>Bryan Dennis, who owns a company called Puget Sound Composites, said the OceanGate founder leaves behind a positive legacy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think Stockton is one of those guys that took us to the next level. And I\u2019m proud of them, and I\u2019m proud of what they did,\u201d Dennis told KIRO. \u201cSuccess isn\u2019t final. Failure isn\u2019t eternal. It\u2019s courage that matters \u2014 these guys had courage and they demonstrated that.
