Santiago\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>OAN\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.oann.com\/tag\/sophia-flores\">Sophia Flores<\/a><br \/>11:40 AM \u2013 Friday, June 23, 2023<\/h2>\n<p>JP Morgan Chase will pay a $4 million fine to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to settle allegations that the bank\u00a0accidentally deleted about 47 million\u00a0emails dated from January until April 2018.<\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1\" style=\"min-width: 320px; min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>A chunk of the deleted emails were sought by subpoenas in at least eight SEC investigations, and in four additional regulatory probes. Other deleted emails \u201ccould relate to potential future investigations, legal matters and regulatory inquiries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Many of the emails were business records \u201crequired to be retained pursuant\u201d to federal securities law. They were deleted in June 2019. In accordance with SEC regulations, companies are obligated to retain all business records for a minimum of three years.<\/p>\n<p>The deletions took place subsequent to JPMorgan\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/jp-morgan-fined-for-deleting-47-million-emails\/\" title=\"JP Morgan penalized for erasing 47M emails.\">corporate compliance technology department\u2019<\/a>s unsuccessful attempts to delete certain communications from the 1970s and 1980s. In an effort to address this issue, the department sought assistance from an external vendor responsible for managing the bank\u2019s email storage.<\/p>\n<p>The SEC issued an order to the firm, directing JP Morgan Chase to \u201ccease and desist from committing any future violations\u201d of the securities law that mandates broker-dealers to retain the original copies of all communications for a minimum of three years.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, the bank announced that it adopted its own email coding procedures to avoid a repeat of this issue. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p><strong>\u201cJPMorgan takes its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sec-regulators-allege-jpmorgan-erroneously-deleted-47-million-emails-amid-investigations\/\" title=\"SEC alleges JPMorgan wrongly deleted 47M emails during probes.\">record-keeping obligations<\/a> seriously,\u201d the bank said in a statement.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Stay informed!
