Will Hurd (R-TX), a moderate and fierce critic of former President Donald Trump, has made an exciting announcement &#8211; he is running for the GOP presidential nomination! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=fY419VMGuLU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">captivating video<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> titled \u201cCommon Sense in Complicated Times,\u201d the Republican bashed liberals, President Joe Biden, and argued that choosing Trump again would hurt the GOP\u2019s chances of beating Biden in 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cPresident Biden can\u2019t solve these problems \u2014 or won\u2019t,\u201d Hurd said. \u201cAnd if we nominate a lawless, selfish, failed politician like Donald Trump \u2014 who lost the House, the Senate and the White House \u2014 we all know Joe Biden will win again.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hurd, 45, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2023\/06\/22\/will-hurd-presidential-campaign-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">represented<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Texas\u2019 massive 23rd Congressional District, which includes hundreds of miles of the U.S.-Mexico border, the most of any <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-red-wave-of-conservative-women-elected-to-congress\/\" title=\"The Red Wave of Conservative Women Elected to Congress\">congressional district<\/a>. Hurd\u2019s announcement focused on illegal immigration, calling out the Biden administration\u2019s border policies. He <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2023\/05\/14\/biden-trump-rematch-from-hell-hurd-00096830\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">called<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> a potential rematch between the 45th and 46th presidents a \u201crematch from hell.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hurd touted his \u201ctwenty years\u201d of being \u201con the front lines of the most pressing fights facing the nation,\u201d including \u201chunt[ing] down terrorists in the Middle East\u201d as a CIA officer before running for Congress. He also touted his congressional record of fighting to \u201clower taxes, secure our border, and provide more opportunities for the middle class.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hurd reportedly makes \u201cfuture\u201d issues a central component of his campaign. In a CBS <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/amp\/news\/will-hurd-announces-hes-running-for-president-former-gop-congressman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">interview<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, he said he was \u201cpissed\u201d at politicians for focusing on the issues of the past rather than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/former-texas-gop-rep-will-hurd-announces-run-for-president\/\" title=\"Will Hurd, ex-Texas GOP Rep., declares presidential bid.\">future-oriented concerns<\/a> such as artificial intelligence and China.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The moderate\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.willbhurd.com\/issues\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">website<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> says Hurd wants to inspire \u201cnew family values,\u201d adding that leaders shouldn\u2019t \u201cbe a jerk, racist, misogynist, or homophobe.\u201d As a congressman, Hurd sometimes sided with Democrats on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/how-actor-ilan-srulovicz-battles-against-intolerant-hollywood\/\" title=\"How Actor Ilan Srulovicz Battles Against Intolerant Hollywood\">gun-related issues<\/a>, LGBTQ rights, and the repeal of the Affordable Care Act.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-stringify-type=\"bold\"><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The longshot candidate\u2019s website also highlights traditionally Republican stances on the economy, immigration, school choice, and foreign policy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hurd entering the race adds another option to an already-crowded GOP primary. Former President Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/epolls\/2024\/president\/us\/2024_republican_presidential_nomination-7548.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">lead<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in the polls, with every other candidate trailing them significantly. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hurd acknowledged his longshot candidacy to CBS, calling himself a \u201cdark-horse candidate.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Some are <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/4021325-why-a-crowded-2024-gop-field-could-clear-the-path-for-trump-again\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">concerned<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> that the crowded primary could split the anti-Trump vote and propel the former president to the nomination, while others say the crowded primary might not have a significant impact because it is still early in the election cycle.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former Rep.
