While Kouri\u2019s deceased husband, Eric, held the legal title to the home, mortgage payments were made from the couple\u2019s joint account, CNN reported.<\/p>\n<p><b>Kouri believes she is entitled to half of all equity in the Family Home.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Kouri also demands around $2 million in proceeds from Eric\u2019s share of his stone masonry business, which was sold after he died. The couple\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bill-and-melinda-gates-divorce-not-a-friendly-split-a-long-time-in-the-making-sources-claim\/\" title=\"Bill And Melinda Gates Divorce \u2018Not A Friendly Split,\u2019 \u2018A Long Time In The Making,\u2019 Sources Claim\">pre-nuptial agreement<\/a> said that the business would \u201cremain the sole property of the Husband\u201d while they were married, and his \u201cpartnership interest in said business shall transfer to the Wife\u201d if he were to die during their marriage.<\/p>\n<p>The proceeds of this business, however, are being held in an estate managed by Eric\u2019s sister. Eric had set up this arrangement with an estate planner prior to his death.<\/p>\n<h3>The Mysterious Circumstances<\/h3>\n<p>Kouri called 911 just after 3:20 a.m. on March 4, 2022, saying her husband wasn\u2019t moving. When responders arrived at the home, they found Eric on the floor at the foot of his bed and attempted to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/woman-accused-of-murdering-husband-is-suing-his-estate-to-collect-money\/\" title=\"Woman accused of husband's murder sues his estate for money.\">perform life-saving measures<\/a>. He was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n<p>Kouri told police she and her husband had been celebrating closing on a home she wanted to flip for her business and that she made him a Moscow Mule and served it to him in bed. She told investigators she then went into one of her kids\u2019 bedrooms, where she fell asleep after the child had a nightmare.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c(Kouri) said she awoke around 3 a.m. and came back to her and Eric\u2019s bedroom. She felt Eric, and he was cold to the touch. That is when the defendant called 911,\u201d court documents say,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ksltv.com\/548093\/utah-author-arrested-accused-of-murdering-husband\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to KSL-TV<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Kouri also told police that she had left her cell phone in her bedroom with her husband, but phone records later showed the device had been used multiple times in the child\u2019s bedroom, The New York Post\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/05\/09\/grief-book-author-kouri-richins-accused-of-murdering-husband\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn addition, tolls on the defendant\u2019s phone show that messages were sent and received during that time. These messages were deleted,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/they-kissed-and-touched-for-a-few-minutes-more-than-two-years-later-she-accused-him-of-sexual-assault\/\" title=\"They Kissed And Touched For A Few Minutes. More Than Two Years Later, She Accused Him Of Sexual Assault.\">court documents reviewed<\/a> by KSL-TV.<\/p>\n<p>An autopsy revealed Eric\u2019s cause of death to be a fentanyl overdose. He had five times the lethal dosage of the drug in his system, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/minnesota-governor-calls-in-national-guard-ahead-of-trial-over-george-floyds-death\/\" title=\"Minnesota Governor Calls In National Guard Ahead Of Trial Over George Floyd\u2019s Death\">medical examiner found<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Police immediately investigated Eric\u2019s death and obtained a search warrant for Kouri\u2019s phone and computers. They quickly found messages between her and an \u201cunnamed acquaintance,\u201d from whom Kouri allegedly bought the drugs to poison her husband.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators interviewed the acquaintance on May 2, who at the time was already facing multiple counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, as well as other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/connecticut-house-debates-expunging-criminal-records-for-300k\/\" title=\"Connecticut House Debates Expunging Criminal Records for 300K\">drug-related offenses<\/a>. Between December 2021 and February 2022, Kouri allegedly asked the acquaintance for \u201cprescription pain medication for an investor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kouri \u201ctold (the acquaintance) to leave the pills at a house defendant was flipping in Midway, Utah. (The acquaintance) left the pills at the house, and the defendant left cash for them,\u201d the documents said, according to KSL-TV.<\/p>\n<p>It appears Eric long suspected his wife of trying to kill him. Years earlier, Eric called one of his sisters during a vacation in Greece to tell her Kouri had mixed him a drink that made him violently ill, KPCW\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kpcw.org\/summit-county\/2023-05-08\/summit-county-mom-arrested-for-husbands-murder\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>. The sister reportedly told investigators that she believed Kouri was trying to kill her brother at the time.<\/p>\n<p><b>Questionable Actions and Suspicions<\/b><\/p>\n<p>In January 2022, just two months before Eric died, Kouri attempted to make herself the sole beneficiary on a life insurance policy Eric held jointly with his business partner. The insurance company notified the two men about Kouri\u2019s attempted change and was able to cancel it.<\/p>\n<p>Eric then removed Kouri from his will and added his sister as a beneficiary to ensure the money he left behind when he died went to his children. His sisters reportedly told investigators that Eric believed Kouri would \u201ckill him for the money.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yet Eric stayed. On Valentine\u2019s Day in 2022, Eric again became very ill after having dinner with his wife, KUTV reported. Eric reportedly broke out in hives and couldn\u2019t breathe after eating. He then passed out after taking a Benadryl and using his son\u2019s EpiPen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEric believed that he had been poisoned. Eric told a friend that he thought his wife was trying to poison him,\u201d a probable cause statement said.<\/p>\n<p>On February 26, 2022, the acquaintance allegedly sold Kouri 15-30 fentanyl pills for $900. Just more than a week later, Eric died.<\/p>\n<p>The day after Eric died, Kouri closed on a $2 million home she wanted to flip. Eric hadn\u2019t wanted to purchase the home, reportedly saying it was too expensive. While celebrating the closing, Kouri allegedly assaulted one of Eric\u2019s sisters, who went to the home while Kouri was throwing a party for the closing.<\/p>\n<p>A little more than a year after Eric died, Kouri published a children\u2019s book called \u201cAre You With Me?\u201d to help children cope with losing a loved one.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Utah woman accused of killing her spouse and penning a grief-themed children&#8217;s book is suing his estate for a share of his business and their home.
