The president delivered the same ludicrous speech he\u2019s been giving for at least a decade. And it contained one of my favorite arguments: \u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1806209788\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-73bc86165ad86b9bc05b95a69a845f7e fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-73bc86165ad86b9bc05b95a69a845f7e\"><\/div>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>And so, we have to change \u2014 there\u2019s a lot of things we can change, because the American people by and large agree you don\u2019t need a weapon of war. I\u2019m a Second Amendment guy.\u00a0I taught it for four years, six years in law school.\u00a0And guess what? It doesn\u2019t say that you can own any weapon you want.\u00a0It says there are certain weapons that you just can\u2019t own.\u00a0Even during when it was passed, you couldn\u2019t own a cannon.\u00a0You can\u2019t own a machine gun.\u00a0(Laughter.)\u00a0No, I\u2019m serious.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So what\u2019s the deal with the idea that it\u2019s an absolute \u2014 you know, I love these guys who say the Second Amendment is \u2014 you know, the tree of liberty is water with the blood of patriots.\u00a0Well, if want to do that, you want to work against the government, you need an F-16.\u00a0You need something else than just an AR-15.\u00a0Anyway.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Virtually every word of this garbled nonsense is untrue.<\/p>\n<p>The quote Biden keeps mangling originated with Thomas Jefferson\u00a0in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monticello.org\/site\/research-and-collections\/tree-liberty-quotation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">letter<\/a>\u00a0to William Stephens Smith, the son-in-law of John Adams: \u201cThe tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots\u00a0<em>and tyrants<\/em>.\u201d\u00a0(Biden leaves off that last part.) Jefferson\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monticello.org\/research-education\/thomas-jefferson-encyclopedia\/french-revolution\/\">support<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/noted-constitutional-scholar-joe-biden-explains-the-second-amendment\/\" title=\"Joe Biden clarifies the Second Amendment.\">sporadic revolutionary bloodletting<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.historynet.com\/jefferson-on-the-run\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">not his own<\/a>) wasn\u2019t shared by most of the founding generation, whose initial sympathy for the French Revolution quickly diminished with the news of violent mobs and mass executions.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, I feel relatively <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/First-Freedom-Through-Americas-Enduring\/dp\/1501174002\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">well-informed<\/a> on the gun debate, and I have literally never heard anyone say, \u201cThe tree of liberty is watered with the blood of patriots.\u201d\u00a0I\u2019m not saying that a cosplay militant hasn\u2019t uttered those words at some point. And I\u2019m not saying Biden didn\u2019t read about it in 1975 or 1992 or 2002. What I\u2019m saying is that it\u2019s a strawman and smear meant to insinuate that most gun owners are looking for violence.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, contending, as the president does, that your weapon is basically useless because the state can simply scramble F-16s and murder you and everyone you love doesn\u2019t really convey the message he thinks it does. What it tells me is that Biden might be a sociopath and we all need tanks.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-e7f43a3f786f98deeb6421762e8d6491 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-e7f43a3f786f98deeb6421762e8d6491\"><\/div>\n<p>The president could just as easily have said: \u201cThe First Amendment? Let\u2019s see how your television station holds up when the government pulls the plug on the electrical grid!\u201d or \u201cYou think the Fifth Amendment is going to save you when we torture you into a confession?\u201d We all know the state is capable of abusing power. That\u2019s the point.<\/p>\n<p>None of this is even to mention that modern armies struggle to contain insurgencies equipped with little more than small arms. There have been countless such fights, including against Americans in places like Afghanistan. I guess we should be happy Biden didn\u2019t <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/that-time-eric-swalwell-threatened-to-go-nuclear-on-gun-owners-literally\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">threaten<\/a> to nuke Kansas.<\/p>\n<p>Also, AR-15s are not, and have never been, \u201cweapons of war.\u201d He keeps saying it. It\u2019s not true. <\/p>\n<p>ArmaLite, and its parent company Colt, began <a href=\"https:\/\/warnescopemounts.com\/blog\/why-is-the-ar15-so-popular-and-its-history\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">selling<\/a> civilian versions of the semi-automatic AR in the early 1960s \u2014 before the more powerful M16 version was officially adopted for use by the U.S. Army.\u00a0The AR-15 has been in \u201ccommon use\u201d by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bulletproof-backpack-makers-retailers-slam-new-york-confiscation-legislation\/\" title=\"Bulletproof Backpack Makers,\u00a0Retailers\u00a0Slam New York Confiscation Legislation\">law-abiding civilians<\/a> for a long time. Then again, muskets, rifles, revolvers, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/watch-tucker-carlson-explains-how-democrats-are-making-gun-violence-possible\/\" title=\"WATCH: Tucker Carlson Explains How \u2018Democrats Are Making Gun Violence Possible\u2019\">semi-automatic handguns<\/a> were once used as, or developed into, \u201cweapons of war.\u201d Guns are designed to kill, otherwise they would be worthless. John Browning designed his famous 1911 handgun before World War I, and it was subsequently used by the U.S. military until 1986. But you can buy as many 1911s as you like.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-6cde28af669e132288ae0957d66523b6 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-6cde28af669e132288ae0957d66523b6\"><\/div>\n<p>That said, the founders wanted the citizenry to own \u201cweapons of war,\u201d because they believed an armed population was a bulwark against those who would strip them of inalienable liberties. So, for instance, you could <em>definitely<\/em> own a cannon. You still <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/americans-can-still-buy-cannon\/\">can<\/a>. There are numerous accounts of the American military buying cannons from private citizens. Then there are the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.battlefields.org\/learn\/articles\/militia-sea\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">privateers<\/a>, which as the name suggests were private citizens. And they had lots of cannons. Americans were never barred from purchasing or constructing any type of weapon they desired without any hassle until the 20th century.<\/p>\n<p>No, the Second Amendment also definitely doesn\u2019t say \u201cthere are certain weapons that you just can\u2019t own.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Indeed, it is quite alarming that someone who claims to have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-most-humane-goal-for-ukraine-is-the-quickest-negotiated-settlement-possible\/\" title=\"The Most Humane Goal For Ukraine Is The Quickest Negotiated Settlement Possible\">taught constitutional law<\/a> says something so obviously untrue. The Second Amendment doesn\u2019t guarantee the right of individuals to \u201ckeep and bear Brown Bess muskets\u201d any more than the First Amendment guarantees the right of individuals to \u201cwrite with feather quill\u201d or religious freedom to \u201cmembers of the Anglican church.\u201d It guarantees the right to bear arms. And it is foolish to believe that the founders, who saw tremendous technological advances in their own lifetimes, were too stupid to comprehend change.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, Biden is not, in fact, a \u201cSecond Amendment guy.\u201d He\u2019s either voted for or supported every <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sen-john-cornyn-booed-at-texas-gop-convention-over-willingness-to-surrender-to-democrats-on-guns\/\" title=\"Sen. John Cornyn Booed At Texas GOP Convention Over Willingness To Surrender To Democrats On Guns\">gun restriction legislation<\/a> since the 1990s.<\/p>\n<p>Though, there is one bit of good news. Biden has never taught anyone constitutional law, not for four or six years, or even one. He was given an honorary-professor position\u00a0at Penn after his vice presidency, which the Philadelphia Inquirer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/news\/joe-biden-penn-salary-lectures-20190712.html&#038;outputType=app-web-view\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> in 2019 was \u201ca vaguely defined role that involved no regular classes and around a dozen public appearances on campus, mostly in big, ticketed events.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-f19865b440f531a56d11ed6799d2edd4 fdrlst__b89e9-after-post-content\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-f19865b440f531a56d11ed6799d2edd4\"><\/div>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">    \t\t\t\t\t   \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Joe Biden&#8217;s son, Hunter, escaped punishment for violating multiple firearm laws, prompting the president to deliver yet another speech on gun control. However, it was essentially a repetition of his long-standing, absurd rhetoric.
