Target partnered with <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/05\/22\/target-partnered-with-satan-supporter-who-wants-to-eradicate-critics-of-transgenderism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a satanist<\/a> and saw its stock price tumble roughly 18.5 percent, despite Mark Cuban\u2019s protestations that going woke is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/mark-cuban-claims-companies-target-bud-light-woke-good-business\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">good for business<\/a>. The University of Arkansas is <a href=\"https:\/\/arkansasadvocate.com\/2023\/06\/13\/university-of-arkansas-prepares-to-dissolve-dei-division\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dissolving<\/a> its Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (full disclosure: I was on its advisory board).<\/p>\n<p>The Los Angeles Dodgers went ahead with <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/06\/19\/foul-ball-l-a-catholics-declare-victory-over-the-perpetually-indulged\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hosting<\/a> the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, though their appearance was an hour before the game began and in the face of faithful protests. Left-wing publication The American Prospect <a href=\"https:\/\/prospect.org\/politics\/2023-06-19-corporate-support-lgbt-rights-teetering\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">laments<\/a> that the \u201cfascist right\u201d is \u201cbullying\u201d companies away from supporting so-called LGBT rights. The Wall Street Journal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/executives-quiet-their-sustainability-talk-on-earnings-calls-amid-growing-culture-war-3a358c1f?page=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reports<\/a> that businesses are stepping away from discussing diversity and sustainability \u201camid culture war boycotts.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-72948707\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-d85f402c6fe06456f8ee4faa6de0d754 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-d85f402c6fe06456f8ee4faa6de0d754\"><\/div>\n<p>Go woke, go broke? Eh, not so fast. For while it seems that conservatives are making strides in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/french-president-macron-woke-social-science-theories-entirely-imported-from-u-s-are-eroding-france\/\" title=\"French President Macron: Woke \u2018Social Science Theories Entirely Imported\u2019 From U.S. Are Eroding France\">culture wars<\/a> and pushing businesses and nonprofit organizations to return to more neutral positions, it\u2019s all a facade. The only battle we<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wayne-root-i-stand-with-president-trump-we-will-always-stand-with-trump\/\" title=\"WAYNE ROOT: I Stand with President Trump, We Will Always Stand With Trump\">\u2019ve won<\/a> is to get businesses to stop discussing, as the Journal headline notes, those issues. When it comes to financial support and the causes themselves, many large corporations and organizations are still true believers.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Follow the Money<\/h2>\n<p>The Trevor Project, which is all in on <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/06\/15\/consumer-group-exposes-deluge-of-corporate-money-going-to-dangerous-pride-group\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">grooming and genital mutilation<\/a> for children, boasts an impressive list of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetrevorproject.org\/corporate-partners\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">corporate partners<\/a>. Brands bend over backward to get a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/04\/07\/inside-the-woke-scoring-system-guiding-american-companies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">good score<\/a> from the Corporate Equality Index, an organization that rewards businesses for going woke. More than <a href=\"https:\/\/sciencebasedtargets.org\/companies-taking-action#dashboard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">5,000 businesses<\/a> worldwide are working with the United Nations on its economically crippling plans to thwart a cyclical climate. Starting in 2024, movies must meet certain <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/blogs\/blog-briefing-room\/3993056-richard-dreyfuss-says-new-diversity-rules-for-oscars-make-me-vomit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">diversity requirements<\/a> in order to be eligible for an Oscar, because acting is apparently taboo now.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, it\u2019s not go woke, go broke. It\u2019s go woke, be a little quieter about it and things will hopefully be fine. Move the pride stuff to the back of the store. Don\u2019t mention how your firm is working to appease BlackRock, Vanguard, and State Street Bank on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) issues, and have the \u201cnuns\u201d perform well before the ball game starts.<\/p>\n<p>From <a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/5936036\/secret-2020-election-campaign\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">influencing elections<\/a> to meddling with <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/democrats\/how-walmart-pushed-arkansas-public-schools-to-go-woke\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">school curriculum<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/latest-news\/how-tobacco-companies-are-crushing-esg-ratings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">gaming<\/a> the ESG movement, which is awful even when it\u2019s not being gamed, Big Business is still woke.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-e22cf085044a2915637b87ad79bd4295 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-e22cf085044a2915637b87ad79bd4295\"><\/div>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Seizing the Means of Propaganda<\/h2>\n<p>These new moves are somewhat positive, though. They show that businesses are feeling the pressure. They show that consumers still have a voice and can remind merchants that, you know, they\u2019re supposed to be in the business of selling goods and services instead of selling societal change.<\/p>\n<p>Anheuser-Busch and Target made the mistake of playing to a section of the market, the one of their leaders\u2019 milieus, but not the overall market. Americans are divided about whether businesses should take a public stance on political and social issues, with 48 percent believing they should and 52 percent saying they should not. Among 18-29-year-olds, that support swells to 59 percent. When it comes to Democrats, the number balloons to 75 percent. But given the divided nature of our political preferences, that means that playing politics risks alienating up to half of your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/why-do-big-cities-tend-to-have-more-big-government\/\" title=\"Why Do Big Cities Tend to Have More Big Government?\">potential customer base<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>These debacles did not teach corporations the real lesson, however, and they\u2019re now attempting to channel Sun Tzu rather than going neutral. As the military strategist wrote in \u201cThe Art of War,\u201d \u201cLet your plans be dark and impenetrable as night, and when you move, fall like a thunderbolt.\u201d For now, some corporations are retrenching into the darkness and attempting to make their plans impenetrable, not abandoning them altogether. But as Sun Tzu also wrote, \u201cTo secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.\u201d And they are offering us an opportunity now that we<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/big-businesses-are-still-woke-theyve-just-learned-to-be-quieter-about-it\/\" title=\"Large corporations remain socially conscious, but have become more discreet about it.\">\u2019ve started playing effective defense<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The world they\u2019re selling is ugly and divisive, but beauty still exists, it still captivates, it still inspires, and we can still use it to unite people and win. All we have to do is seize the <a href=\"https:\/\/americanmind.org\/salvo\/we-must-seize-the-means-of-propaganda\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">means of propaganda<\/a> from them, as Isaac Simpson wrote at The American Mind, and start offering our own messaging. We need to tell real, inspiring stories about real Americans and their hopes and dreams instead of standing by while the ESG commissars tell fairy tales about what they would like Americans to be. That doesn\u2019t mean demanding that corporations cater to our political beliefs and start offering Freedom Beer and Constitution Cornbread, but that we push our bosses and marketing teams to speak to everyone instead of identity groups. It means sticking with the protests when brands lecture us and try to foist divisive issues upon us.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-20c68dc9b8c8d88d76e405bc580fecef fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-20c68dc9b8c8d88d76e405bc580fecef\"><\/div>\n<p>It also means capturing and sharing ideals that animate us all rather than segments of us, ideals about liberty and family and faith and upward mobility, about aspiring to be better tomorrow than we are today. For as \u201cMaverick\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/08\/01\/the-20s-are-starting-to-rhyme-with-the-80s-with-maverick-malaise-and-more\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">showed us<\/a>, nurturing grievances doesn\u2019t inspire people, entertaining them with beautiful winners does.
