Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization<\/i> to a federal appeals court Tuesday.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Julie Rikelman, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/06\/20\/politics\/julie-rikelman-senate-confirmation-federal-judge\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lost<\/a> the most important case of her career in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dobbs<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, will sit on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, which covers Puerto Rico and most of New England. The 51-year-old is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/2023\/6\/20\/23760777\/julie-rikelman-confirmed-first-circuit-abortion-dobbs-supreme-court\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">seen<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> by many as America\u2019s \u201cpreeminent abortion rights attorney.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThroughout her career, Ms. Rikelman has demonstrated a commitment to upholding what was settled precedent by defending <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Roe v. Wade<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and has committed to following all current and future Supreme Court precedents on the bench,\u201d Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) said in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.manchin.senate.gov\/newsroom\/press-releases\/manchin-supports-rikelman-nomination-for-first-circuit-court-of-appeals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">statement<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> supporting her nomination.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Rikelman\u2019s nomination was supported unanimously by Senate Democrats, including two self-described \u201cpro-life Democrats,\u201d Sens. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.manchin.senate.gov\/newsroom\/press-releases\/manchin-statement-on-scotus-decision-to-overturn-roe-v-wade\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Manchin<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2018\/07\/02\/casey-abortion-pennsylvania-midterms-689505\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Bob Casey<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (D-PA). The Democrats were joined by two pro-abortion Republicans, Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The attorney has been the senior litigation director for the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/reproductiverights.org\/about-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Center for Reproductive Rights<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/conservatives-say-biden-supreme-court-pick-will-be-a-radical-left-activist\/\" title=\"Conservatives Say Biden Supreme Court Pick Will Be a Radical-Left Activist\">radical pro-abortion group<\/a>, since 2011.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">President Joe Biden <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2023\/06\/20\/senate-confirms-dobbs-lawyer-federal-judge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">nominated<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Rikelman in July 2022, shortly following her failure in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dobbs<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, but Judiciary Committee Republicans were able to stall her nomination because of the 50-50 split in the Senate. Now that Democrats <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2023\/06\/20\/senate-confirms-dobbs-lawyer-federal-judge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">have<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> a numerical majority, they can push through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/attorney-who-defended-abortion-clinic-in-dobbs-ascends-to-federal-judgeship\/\" title=\"Abortion clinic defender in Dobbs becomes federal judge.\">left-wing judicial appointees<\/a> more quickly over Republicans\u2019 objections.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">During her confirmation hearing, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenTedCruz\/status\/1572663570696912904\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">characterized<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Rikelman as \u201can extreme zealot advocating for abortion.\u201d Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=0FyPvRA0YP4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">grilled<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Rikelman\u2019s past writings <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/opinion-rikelman-myrick-supreme-court-crisis-pregnancy-abortion_n_5b3398c2e4b0cb56051e0aaa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">characterizing<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> pro-life crisis pregnancy centers as \u201cfaux clinics that pose as real medical facilities\u201d and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scotusblog.com\/2017\/12\/symposium-first-amendment-cannot-justify-lying-women\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">claiming<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> they cause \u201cwomen [to] suffer concrete harms to their health.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-stringify-type=\"bold\"><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The new judge also committed to applying the Dobbs decision \u201cfaithfully\u201d in her judicial work, saying, \u201cThe rule of law itself depends on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/is-the-democrats-election-heist-too-big-to-fail\/\" title=\"Is the Democrats\u2019 Election Heist \u2018Too Big to Fail\u2019?\">lower courts<\/a> following Supreme Court precedent.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Mississippi clinic Rikelman represented <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/jackson-womens-health-closes-last-mississippi-abortion-clinic-roe-v-wade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">closed<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in Summer 2022 after Mississippi\u2019s trigger law went into effect following Rikelman\u2019s unsuccessful attempt to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oyez.org\/cases\/2021\/19-1392\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">convince<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> the U.S. Supreme Court that abortion was a \u201cfundamental right\u201d under the Constitution. The Mississippi statute bans abortion except in cases of rape or to preserve the life of the mother.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Despite Rikelman\u2019s notoriety for her work on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/supreme-court-ducks-emergency-appeal-in-tennessee-abortion-case\/\" title=\"Supreme Court Ducks Emergency Appeal in Tennessee Abortion Case\">abortion cases<\/a>, it is unlikely she will significantly impact the current abortion jurisprudence. Abortion cases make up a very small amount of cases federal courts hear, and she has no jurisdiction over any of the red states whose <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/march-for-life-charts-course-for-biden-administration\/\" title=\"March for Life Charts Course for Biden Administration\">abortion bans<\/a> are caught in court.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In a 51-43 vote, the U.S. Senate confirmed Julie Rikelman, the attorney who represented the Mississippi abortion clinic in Dobbs v.
