The cost for a spot on the submersible was $250,000.<\/p>\n<h3>A Young and Inspirational Team<\/h3>\n<p>In an interview via Zoom for Teledyne Marine, Stockton Rush, CEO and founder of OceanGate, was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.video.teledynemarine.com\/video\/64137353\/interview-with-oceangate-ceo-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">asked<\/a> about the fact that the \u201ctenure\u201d of a lot of the staff on the submersibles was \u201cobviously not significant\u201d \u2014 \u201ca lot of young folks coming out of school.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rush replied that while other sub-operators typically have gentlemen who are ex-military submariners and \u201cyou\u2019ll see a whole bunch of 50-year-old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/joy-behar-calls-pro-life-white-guys-get-vasectomies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">white guys<\/a>,\u201d he wanted their team \u201cto be younger, to be inspirational.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not going to inspire a 16-year-old to go <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/boss-of-titanic-sub-company-didnt-want-50-year-old-white-guys-on-his-team\/\" title=\"Titanic Sub Company Boss Excluded Older White Men\">pursue marine technology<\/a>, but a 25-year-old who is a sub-pilot or platform operator or one of our techs can be inspirational,\u201d Rush said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe also want our team to have a variety of different backgrounds,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<h3>The Importance of Experience<\/h3>\n<p>While there is no evidence that staff error led to this incident, it has to be said that hiring staff to be \u201cinspirational\u201d rather than on the basis of their experience sounds like a really bad idea.<\/p>\n<p>Diversity hiring in any job situation can cull the best and the brightest and reduce standards, but in some industries, whom you hire may mean the difference between life and death. In high-stakes industries where human lives are at risk, such as flying a plane, performing surgery, or operating a 22-foot vessel in the Atlantic Ocean at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/sciencetech\/article-12218675\/Scary-animation-shows-deep-missing-Titanic-sub-be.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">twice the depth<\/a>\u00a0of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/national-park-service-officially-renames-offensive-grand-canyon-locale\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Grand Canyon<\/a>, the only criteria that should matter should be education and experience.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Just how DEEP could the missing OceanGate\u2019s Submersible Titan be? He claims he then was abruptly given a mere 10 minutes to collect his belongings and leave the premises.<\/p>\n<p>In response to this lawsuit, OceanGate filed a counterclaim against Lochridge, accusing him of violating a non-disclosure agreement.<\/p>\n<p>In his counterclaim, Lochridge stated that OceanGate intended to expose passengers to significant risks by placing them in an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/doctors-experimental-hail-mary-procedure-saves-patient-trying-make-sense\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">experimental<\/a>\u00a0submersible.
