And it&#8217;s time to move on.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/winred.tomcotton.com\/tom-cotton\/defend-scotus-ads-beacon?utm_source=rc&#038;utm_medium=beaconads&#038;utm_campaign=2023maybeaconscotus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/winred.tomcotton.com\/tom-cotton\/defend-scotus-ads-beacon?utm_source=rc&#038;utm_medium=beaconads&#038;utm_campaign=2023maybeaconscotus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<h3>Media Reacts to Hunter Biden&#8217;s Plea Deal<\/h3>\n<p>So say mainstream media after news broke Tuesday that Hunter Biden reached a plea deal with federal prosecutors that will probably allow him to avoid jail time for tax and gun charges.<\/p>\n<p>Republican complaints that President Joe Biden&#8217;s son is getting a &#8220;sweetheart deal&#8221; are &#8220;without evidence,&#8221; <em>Politico<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/newsletters\/playbook-pm\/2023\/06\/20\/inside-hunter-bidens-plea-deal-00102677\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><em>Congressional Republicans and conservative commentators decried the plea\u2014without evidence\u2014as overly lenient, a &#8220;sweetheart deal&#8221; and an example of a politicized justice system. (Notably, WaPo has reported that nationally, very few people are charged for lying on the firearms form like Biden did.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>If anything the charges against Hunter Biden are too harsh, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/justice-department\/legal-experts-say-charges-hunter-biden-are-rarely-brought-rcna90191\">per<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/justice-department\/legal-experts-say-charges-hunter-biden-are-rarely-brought-rcna90191\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NBC News<\/a> experts:<\/p>\n<p><em>The federal gun charge, which makes it unlawful for a drug addict to possess a weapon, is a rarely used statute that is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nine-states-and-d-c-still-have-mask-mandates-in-place\/\" title=\"Nine States and D.C. Still Have Mask Mandates in Place\">facing legal challenges<\/a> and has recently been used as a catch-all charge against white supremacists.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Like the gun charge, the tax charges are rarely brought against first-time offenders and even more rarely result in jail time, Andrew Weissmann, a former FBI general counsel and NBC News contributor, tweeted Tuesday. &#8220;This is if anything harsh, not lenient,&#8221; he wrote.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Experts on ABC News and CNN agreed:<\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">CNN&#8217;s Mariotti on Hunter getting off the hook for dozens of major felonies he thoroughly documented w\/ photos &#038; emails: Settlement is &#8220;actually harsher than the treatment that a typical person would receive&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/GAUCS6zgwt\">pic.twitter.com\/GAUCS6zgwt<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Tom Elliott (@tomselliott) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/tomselliott\/status\/1671512676072058880?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 21, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>If you think about it, Biden is really a victim of his own brave honesty, <a href=\"https:\/\/grabien.com\/story.php?id=428191&#038;utm_source=cliplist&#038;utm_medium=email&#038;utm_campaign=cliplist20230621&#038;utm_content=story428191\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN suggested<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><em>It is a fascinating thing, though, certainly for Hunter Biden and the candidness of him talking about his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/exclusive-nfl-insider-breaks-down-top-quarterbacks-ahead-of-draft-day\/\" title=\"EXCLUSIVE: NFL Insider Breaks Down Top Quarterbacks Ahead Of Draft Day\">substance abuse problems<\/a> is what ended up causing some issues for him.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Looking ahead, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/06\/21\/politics\/hunter-biden-plea-2024-spotlight\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the network predicted<\/a> a national dialogue about Biden&#8217;s &#8220;personal agonies and struggles with addiction&#8221;:<\/p>\n<p><em>Debate over the exact terms of the deal will likely play out until a federal judge finalizes the terms. As will the question of whether Hunter Biden\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/republican-jerks-need-to-leave-vulnerable-addict-hunter-biden-alone-media-say\/\" title=\"Media urge Republicans to stop targeting vulnerable addict Hunter Biden.\">conduct caused unnecessary political problems<\/a> for his father or whether his family circumstances meant that his personal agonies and struggles with addiction played out on a far more public level than would have been the case for many people.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The <em>New York Times<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/live\/2023\/06\/20\/us\/hunter-biden-plea-deal?smid=url-share#heres-the-latest-on-hunter-bidens-case\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pointed out<\/a> that Biden will be contributing to racial equity in a way:<\/p>\n<p><em>Hunter Biden\u2019s deal \u2014 which includes admitting he illegally possessed a handgun because he was addicted to drugs at the time of purchase\u2014includes his entry into a diversion program, a common alternative to incarceration.
