In his published testimony, Painter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.budget.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/Mr.%20Richard%20Painter%20-%20Testimony%20-%20Senate%20Budget%20Committee1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">attacked<\/a> the Supreme Court\u2019s application of the First Amendment to political speech and compared being skeptical of climate change to believing that the earth is flat. Questioning his credibility as a witness, Kennedy grilled Painter on past tweets he had made about Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R., S.C.).\n  <\/p>\n<p>\n    Painter had <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RWPUSA\/status\/1306742626624901132\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">called<\/a> Graham &#8220;Putin\u2019s favorite senator&#8221; in 2020 when discussing an ill-fated bid by Democrat Jaime Harrison to unseat him. Graham has emerged as one of the strongest Republican opponents of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, with the Russian government even going as far as to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/nation\/russia-issues-arrest-warrant-for-lindsey-graham-over-comments-on-war-in-ukraine\">issue<\/a> an arrest warrant for the senator.\n  <\/p>\n<p>\n    When Kennedy asked Painter to explain his tweet, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/beastmode-sen-kennedy-to-ethics-expert-my-aunts-facebook-page-has-more-credibility-than-you-do\/\" title=\"Sen. Kennedy to ethics expert: 'My aunt's Facebook page is more credible than you.'\">law professor initially denied<\/a> having knowledge of it. When Kennedy pulled out a printout of the tweet, Painter pivoted to questioning what it had to do with the topic of the hearing.\n  <\/p>\n<p>\n    &#8220;It has to do with your credibility,&#8221; the senator responded.\n  <\/p>\n<p>\n    Kennedy also referred to a tweet where Painter <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RWPUSA\/status\/1653536672795983880\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">insinuated<\/a> that Justice Thomas was beholden to the interests of the wealthy because he had accepted gifts from friends. When Kennedy asked Painter to tell the Senate panel &#8220;which members of the Supreme Court you believe are bought,&#8221; he declined to give a straight answer. Instead, Painter deferred to the alleged concerns of the American people regarding Thomas\u2019s personal life. At the end of Kennedy\u2019s line of questioning, Painter conceded somewhat, saying that he &#8220;stand[s] by that tweet.&#8221;\n  <\/p>\n<p>\n    &#8220;I\u2019m out of time but let me just say for the record,&#8221; Kennedy said at the end of his questioning, &#8220;my aunt&#8217;s Facebook page has more credibility than you do.&#8221;\n  <\/p>\n<p>\n    Painter has a history of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sidney-powell-is-an-american-legal-giant\/\" title=\"Sidney Powell Is an American Legal Giant\">making false statements<\/a>. In 2018, the then-Senate candidate and former Bush ethics lawyer claimed that Justice Anthony Kennedy\u2019s decision to retire from the Supreme Court was influenced by Trump\u2019s dealings with Deutsche Bank, the justice\u2019s son\u2019s employer. The <em>Washington Post<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/politics\/richard-painter-spreads-conspiracy-theory-kennedys-retirement-rated-false-wapo\/\">gave<\/a> Painter &#8220;Four Pinocchios&#8221; for the statement, its worst possible rating for false claims.\n  <\/p>\n<p>\n    Painter, who <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/politics\/ad-richard-painter-will-put-out-dumpster-fires-with-his-watery-integrity\/\">ran<\/a> the much-maligned &#8220;dumpster fire&#8221; ad during his Senate campaign, also holds some unorthodox views on American history.
