True, the country\u2019s system of socialized medicine continues to ration treatments deemed too expensive by government bureaucrats. Importing the NHS to the United States would exacerbate the problems in our health care system. But at least the NHS is listening when it comes to protecting young children from dangerous and experimental treatments.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s the takeaway from the recent news that the health system has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.england.nhs.uk\/commissioning\/spec-services\/npc-crg\/gender-dysphoria-clinical-programme\/implementing-advice-from-the-cass-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">officially recommended<\/a> limiting access to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/texas-judge-halts-investigations-into-parents-of-transgender-minors-for-child-abuse\/\" title=\"Texas Judge Halts Investigations Into Parents of Transgender Minors for Child Abuse\">puberty-suppressing drugs<\/a>: \u201coutside of a research setting, puberty-suppressing hormones should not be routinely commissioned for children and adolescents who have gender incongruence\/dysphoria.\u201d That means NHS will no longer coerce British taxpayers to subsidize these unsafe procedures.<\/p>\n<p>This conclusion comes after the health service spent nearly three years examining the latest evidence regarding sex-related treatments and their effects. The NHS <a href=\"https:\/\/www.england.nhs.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Consultation-report-on-interim-service-specification-for-Specialist-Gender-Incongruence-Services-for-Children-.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">noted<\/a> that referrals for transgender interventions increased 20-fold over the span of a decade, from 2011 to 2022. The increase in cases came primarily from individuals born female \u201cpresenting with gender incongruence in early teen years,\u201d and from \u201ca significant number of children \u2026 presenting with neurodiversity and other mental health needs and risky behaviors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Given the explosion of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/on-dangerous-puberty-blockers-its-time-to-follow-britains-lead\/\" title=\"Time to follow Britain's lead on dangerous puberty blockers.\">adolescent patients seeking transgender intervention<\/a> and the change in the characteristics of these new cases, the NHS admits \u201ca lack of clinical consensus\u201d about how to treat these patients, \u201cand a lack of evidence to support families in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/u-s-poisoned-the-world-why-is-chinese-covid-propaganda-allowed-on-twitter\/\" title=\"\u2018U.S. Poisoned The World\u2019: Why Is Chinese COVID Propaganda Allowed On Twitter?\">making informed decisions<\/a> about interventions that may have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/its-time-for-oregon-to-admit-decriminalizing-drugs-has-gone-horribly-wrong\/\" title=\"Oregon should say that decriminalizing medication has gone horribly wrong.\">life-long consequences<\/a>.\u201d Another section put it more bluntly: \u201cThere is not enough evidence to support [puberty blockers\u2019] safety or clinical effectiveness as a routinely available treatment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The NHS is not alone in calling for a pause on the movement to provide experimental hormonal treatments to young adolescents without sufficient evidence of their safety. Governments and health agencies across Europe are rethinking the potentially dangerous puberty blocker \u201cfad.\u201d Finland and Sweden both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/06\/09\/health\/puberty-blockers-transgender-children-britain-nhs.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">limited access<\/a> to transgender interventions, while the French National Academy of Medicine <a href=\"https:\/\/www.academie-medecine.fr\/la-medecine-face-a-la-transidentite-de-genre-chez-les-enfants-et-les-adolescents\/?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">advised<\/a> that \u201ca <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/europe-dialing-back-shocking-policies-on-transgender-kids-and-medical-intervention\/\" title=\"Europe Dialing Back Shocking Policies On Transgender Kids And Medical Intervention\">great medical caution<\/a> must be taken in children and adolescents\u201d given their vulnerability \u201cand the many undesirable effects, and even serious complications, that some of the available therapies can cause.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yet on this side of the Atlantic, the left insists on bullying anyone who dares question the propriety of transgender surgery and chemical castration. When two respected scientists \u2014 one of whom has a daughter with gender dysphoria \u2014 published research in the <em>Archives of Sexual Behavior<\/em> suggesting many adolescents declared a new sexual identity in response to social media influence and\/or peer pressure, a group of activists <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/medical-journals-false-consensus-on-gender-affirming-care-sex-change-procedure-transgender-f10cd52b?mod=opinion_lead_pos7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">demanded<\/a> \u2014 and got \u2014 the journal to retract the study.<\/p>\n<p>This illustrates the radical nature of transgender activists, who insist that sexual identity is innate and will not accept any evidence otherwise. In addition to denying biology, they also deny the scientific process when it conflicts with their political goals.<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, however, more individuals and institutions, including the NHS, are speaking up to protect the interests of innocent children from these radical activists. As the mother of two young girls, I am grateful for these beacons of hope and rationality in a world seemingly gone mad. I hope parents around the country will take the warnings of institutions like the NHS to heart.
