However, when confronted with the possibility of someone he had previously freed being executed, Trump seemed to backtrack on his stance.<\/p>\n<p>During the interview, Trump emphasized that he believed the death penalty was the only way to combat the drug epidemic, citing China and Singapore as successful examples. He also defended his First Step Act, highlighting the case of former drug dealer Alice Johnson as a success story.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;I focused on nonviolent crime,&#8221; Trump explained. &#8220;Take Alice Johnson, for example. She was involved in selling marijuana, mostly marijuana, and she received a 50-year jail sentence.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>However, Baier interjected, pointing out that under Trump&#8217;s plan, Johnson would be executed as a drug dealer.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;No, no, no,&#8221; Trump responded, seemingly caught off guard. &#8220;It would depend on the severity.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Baier continued to press the issue, revealing that Johnson had been involved in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/donald-trump-backtracks-on-crime-policy-she-would-be-killed-under-your-plan\/\" title=\"Trump reverses stance on crime policy: 'Your plan would result in her death'\">multimillion-dollar cocaine ring<\/a>.
