The legislation passed unanimously in the Senate before a 419-0 voice vote in the House of Representatives. Biden signed the bill into law on March 20, just 20 days after its formal introduction.<\/p>\n<p>The COVID-19 Origin Act gave the Biden administration 90 days from the day the president signed the bill into law to \u201cdeclassify and make available to the public as much information as possible\u201d about the true origin of COVID-19. The 90-day deadline gave the Biden administration until Sunday, June 18 to meet the declassification requirements.<\/p>\n<p>The law would have forced a closer look at the intelligence underlying the theory that COVID-19 resulted from a laboratory leak. The law specifically calls for the U.S. intelligence community to reveal if the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) in Wuhan, China was conducting research on behalf of the Chinese regime\u2019s People\u2019s Liberation Army, and whether the virology lab was researching or experimenting with coronaviruses. The legislation also called for the intelligence community to reveal the names of any WIV researchers who fell ill in the autumn of 2019, whether they were involved in coronavirus experimentation or not, and specific dates for when their symptoms began.<\/p>\n<h2>Reminder Sent<\/h2>\n<p>Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), who sponsored the COVID-19 Origin Act, sent a letter to Biden on June 14, reminding Biden administration officials that they had just four days to meet the law\u2019s declassification deadline, and that the administration had not yet \u201cprovided any indication of when the relevant material will be declassified.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hawley and Sen. Mike Braun (R-Ind.) reminded the president not only of the deadline, but that they were seeking the greatest degree of transparency possible with the declassification and public release of the documents. The senators noted that the COVID-19 Origin Act only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-admin-misses-deadline-to-reveal-intelligence-findings-on-covid-19-origins\/\" title=\"Biden Admin Fails to Disclose COVID-19 Origin Intel on Time\">allowed minimal redactions<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/top-house-intel-committee-republicans-call-for-a-classified-briefing-on-call-between-biden-and-xi\/\" title=\"Top House Intel Committee Republicans Call for a Classified Briefing on Call Between Biden and Xi\">protect intelligence sources<\/a> and methods.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour Administration should comply with the law as written and not <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/republicans-demand-biden-declassify-covid-19-origins-documents-as-deadline-looms\/\" title=\"GOP Urges Biden to Declassify COVID-19 Origins Docs before Deadline\">undermine clear congressional intent<\/a> to provide as much transparency to the American people as possible,\u201d Hawley and Braun wrote in their letter (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawley.senate.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/2023-06\/Hawley-COVID-Origins-Letter_0.pdf\">pdf<\/a>). \u201cWe introduced the COVID-19 Origin Act of 2023 earlier this Congress to hold China accountable for its obfuscation during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. From the beginning of the pandemic, China appears to have taken every effort to hide COVID\u2019s origins from the world. The American people deserve to know how this pandemic began, and their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/flashback-in-2013-trudeau-chose-communist-china-as-country-he-most-admired-besides-canada\/\" title=\"FLASHBACK: In 2013, Trudeau Chose Communist China As Country He Most Admired Besides Canada\">democratically elected representatives<\/a> have expressed their will unanimously. I urge you not to stand in their way.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Still No Answer<\/h2>\n<p>Biden originally said he was pleased to sign the COVID-19 Origin Act into law.<\/p>\n<p>In a March 20 statement upon signing the bill, Biden stated, \u201cI am pleased to sign the COVID-19 Origin Act into law. The American people deserve to know the truth about the origins of this devastating pandemic. This legislation will help shed light on the circumstances surrounding COVID-19 and hold those responsible accountable.
