In previous interviews, Trump said that he believes the war should be ended because the true death toll isn\u2019t being reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m telling you, within 24 hours\u2014that\u2019s what I did. I became very rich by doing deals. Very rich. And you know what? Much more so than people even understand. And that\u2019s what I do,\u201d the former president said.\u00a0\u201cI would have a deal done in 24 hours from the time we started. And I would tell [Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelenskyy something and I would tell Putin something, and I\u2019d get him into a room, and I\u2019d tell him again, and again,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith Putin, I have a very good relationship. I mean, I haven\u2019t spoken to him in a long while, but I had a very strong relationship,\u201d he said, adding again that Putin would not have invaded Ukraine if he remained president of the United States.\u00a0\u201cHe wouldn\u2019t have done it if it were me. He did it after I left,\u201d Trump continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought he might do it,\u201d Trump said in full. \u201cLook, I talked to him. I said, \u2018If you do it, there\u2019s going to be hell to pay. It\u2019s going to be a catastrophe. Don\u2019t do it.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the former commander-in-chief, Putin told Trump on one occasion that he did not believe Trump would take any action if he invaded.\u00a0\u201cI told him I was going to do something. He said, \u2018No, no, no, you will not do that.\u2019 I said, \u2018I will, Vladimir, I will do it. I\u2019m going to do it,&#8217;\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<h2>Zelenskyy Statement<\/h2>\n<p>It comes as Zelenskyy this week publicly criticized some GOP candidates who have signaled a reluctance to provide military aid to Ukraine. In an interview with NBC News, Zelenskyy was asked about Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis\u2019 characterization of the war as a \u201cterritorial dispute\u201d and Trump\u2019s 24 hours comments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf any candidate thinks supporting Ukraine is too costly, are they ready to go to war? Are they ready to fight? Send their children? Die?\u201d Zelenskyy said in response to a question about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ntd.com\/zelenskyy-questions-us-presidential-candidates-calling-for-ukraine-peace-deal-are-they-ready-to-go-to-war_926222.html\">statements<\/a> that DeSantis and Trump made. \u201cThey will have to do it anyway if NATO enters this war, and if Ukraine fails and Russia occupies us, they will move on to the Baltics or Poland or some other NATO country. Russia invaded Ukraine about a year after Trump departed the White House, and it\u2019s not exactly clear what the Ukrainian president was referring to.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy didn\u2019t he do that earlier?
