The dives take about eight hours, with about 2.5 hours each for the ascent and descent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor there not to be any communications or any movement, indications are that something went critical,\u201d Steve Somlyody of Florida, who has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/black-lives-matter-files-lawsuit-against-santa-monica-to-prevent-unlawful-police-response-at-future-protests\/\" title=\"Black Lives Matter Files Lawsuit Against Santa Monica To Prevent \u2018Unlawful\u2019 Police Response At Future Protests\">spent 20 years<\/a> in the design and operation of submersibles, told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/lifestyle\/submersible-scientist-fears-oceangate-may-have-suffered-catastrophic-implosion-worrisome\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox News<\/a>\u00a0on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The Titan was built with emergency methods to rise to the surface, but a sonobuoy like the ones in use to find the craft would detect it if that was happening, Somlyody said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe lack of signs of communication is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/unloading-a-revolver-into-the-head-of-any-white-person-that-got-in-my-way-psychiatrist-tells-yale-audience-her-fantasies\/\" title=\"\u2018Unloading A Revolver Into The Head Of Any White Person That Got In My Way\u2019: Psychiatrist Tells Yale Audience Her Fantasies\">deeply worrisome<\/a>,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<h3>The Pressure at Titanic&#8217;s Depth<\/h3>\n<p>Pressure is the worst enemy at the depth where the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-groundbreaking-scan-records-titanic-wreck-incredible-detail-including-small-inscription-propeller\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Titanic<\/a> lies, Somlyody said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe pressure down there at 4,000 meters is pretty high. About 5,800 [pounds per square inch] at Titanic depth. If they had any kind of leak, it would lead to an implosion, and it would happen in an instant, very immediately. You wouldn\u2019t even know it happened,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Somlyody said he knows of only two vessels in the U.S. that could reach the depth of the Titanic. Deploying them would take preparation and transportation time, he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Titan could jettison equipment in an effort to rise, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf they were to float up from that depth, it would take a significant amount of time, depending upon how much weight they were able to shed and how buoyant they become,\u201d Somlyody said, estimating an ascent in such a fashion could take 10 hours.<\/p>\n<p>OceanGate, the company that runs the tourist dives, confirmed Monday that it had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-sub-takes-tourists-view-titanic-goes-missing-coast-guard-rescue-efforts-underway\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lost contact<\/a> with the Titan.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"zxx\"><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/JmH8e47zuI\">pic.twitter.com\/JmH8e47zuI<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 OceanGate Expeditions (@OceanGateExped) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/OceanGateExped\/status\/1670876600152526848?\">June 19, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The expedition cost passengers about $250,000, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/missing-titanic-tourist-submersible-what-to-know\/story?id=100208919\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ABC News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Rear Adm. John Mauger, a Coast Guard spokesman, said Monday the Titan would have between 70 to 96 hours of oxygen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re using that time making the best use of every moment of that time,\u201d Mauger said.<\/p>\n<p>He said the Coast Guard and Canadian officials were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/titanic-disappeared-1912-now-disappearing-scientists-scramble\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">searching an area<\/a> about 900 miles east of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, at a depth of about 13,000 feet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are doing everything we can do,\u201d Mauger said, adding that it was \u201ca challenge to conduct a search in that remote area, but we are deploying all available assets to make sure that we can locate the craft and rescue the people on board.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stockton Rush, president of OceanGate, said last year the trips to the Titanic were important to keep alive interest in the wreck.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo public entity is going to fund going back to the Titanic.
