Stuffing ballot boxes. Tampering with voting equipment. Stealing ballots. Censoring candidates. These were some of the concerns raised, notably by former President Donald Trump, in the aftermath of the 2020 election.<\/p>\n<p>As we approach 2024, how great a concern is election security for the 2024 presidential candidates? The Epoch Times submitted questions to major candidates in both parties to find out.<\/p>\n<p>The questions centered on three concerns: Did election tampering affect the outcome of the 2020 presidential election? What should be done to ensure a fair election in 2024? Will you accept the outcome of the 2024 contest?<\/p>\n<p>Former Ambassador Nikki Haley responded directly to our questions. Representatives of former Vice President Mike Pence and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis referred us to their previously published views on the matter.<\/p>\n<p>No response was received from the campaigns of Republican candidates Trump, Sen. Tim Scott (S.C.), entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, or Democrat candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.<\/p>\n<p>The views of Trump, Scott, Ramaswamy, and Biden were available through media interviews and public statements.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s what they said.<\/p>\n<h2>Impact of Fraud in 2020<\/h2>\n<p>Trump made broad claims of election interference immediately after the 2020 election and stands by them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was a rigged election, and it\u2019s a shame that we had to go through it. It\u2019s very bad for our country. All over the world, they looked at it, and they saw exactly what everyone else saw,\u201d Trump said in a May <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/in-depth-will-the-2024-election-be-secure-presidential-candidates-weigh-in-on-the-issue\/\" title=\"2024 Election Security: Candidates' Perspectives\">11 town hall-style meeting<\/a> on CNN.<\/p>\n<p>Trump claimed election interference causes a difference of 16 percentage points in the outcome of the election.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4130300\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n    <a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2021\/11\/30\/Capitol_Breach_Trump_21291757990079-1200x800-1200x800.jpg\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><\/noscript><\/figcaption><\/a><br \/>\n  <\/figure>\n<p>The former president cited censorship on Twitter and \u201cmillions of votes\u201d caught on camera in cases of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/shocker-amazons-a-hypocrite-on-mail-in-ballots\/\" title=\"Shocker\u2013Amazon\u2019s a Hypocrite on Mail-in Ballots\">stuffing ballot boxes<\/a>.\u201d He referred to alleged evidence from government cameras as proof.<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis acknowledged some election tampering in a May 26 interview on MSN but said much of the fault lies with Trump.<\/p>\n<p>The Florida governor said that the COVID-19 state of emergency contributed to the use of ballot collection, also called ballot harvesting, which is the collection of absentee ballots from voters by a third party for delivery to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-zuckerberg-bans-president-trump-from-using-facebook-indefinitely\/\" title=\"BREAKING: Zuckerberg Bans President Trump from Using Facebook \u201cIndefinitely\u201d\">ballot drop box<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While legal in many states, critics claim it is an opportunity for fraud.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course, I think that that\u2019s wrong,\u201d DeSantis said. \u201cBut if I were the candidate, I would have gone in and combated that, either had our people doing the same ballot harvesting or been more aggressive to try to head that off in terms of some of the legal challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis also said the government colluded with tech companies to censor negative information about Biden, which he called \u201celection interference.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s totally unfair, but I\u2019ll also point out that was Donald Trump\u2019s FBI and Donald Trump\u2019s DHS that was doing that. He didn\u2019t have control over his own agencies,\u201d DeSantis said. \u201cIf someone in my government were doing that, they would have been fired the next day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pence called the 2020 contest \u201can election marked by significant voting irregularities and numerous instances of officials setting aside state election law\u201d in a March 2021 article for Heritage Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI share the concerns of millions of Americans about the integrity of the 2020 election,\u201d Pence wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Yet Pence famously refused to decertify the election results in the Senate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut once states had certified those elections, once the courts had reviewed them, once the Congress had considered any objections, I knew my duty was clear,\u201d he said in a June 7 town hall-style event on CNN<\/p>\n<p>Haley, Scott, and Ramaswamy have said they believe some election tampering did occur but that it did not change the outcome of the race.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4876524\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n    <a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2022\/11\/21\/former-vp-pence-in-vegas-1200x800.jpg\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><\/noscript><\/figcaption><\/a><br \/>\n  <\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThere was fraud in the 2020 election, but no court or state legislature found that it was enough to change the outcome,\u201d Haley told The Epoch Times.<\/p>\n<p>Scott said there was evidence of minor irregularities and even fraud, but he saw no evidence of a rigged election. \u201cThus far, no justice, judge or fact finder has found evidence indicating the election results in those states should be overturned,\u201d Scott said in a statement issued on Jan. 5, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Ramaswamy said much the same in a May 19 interview on NPR.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have a lot of issues with the suppression of information by social media companies and internet companies that led up to that election,\u201d Ramaswamy said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut in the technical sense of, you know, do I think that there was large-scale ballot fraud or whatever that changed the election outcome based on how the votes were counted? I have seen no evidence of that.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Corrective Actions<\/h2>\n<p>Biden has obviously accepted the results of the 2020 election. However, he has voiced concerns about possible election interference in 2024. His concern centers on the enactment of laws aimed at voter suppression.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Georgia Republican Party, the state legislature has now given itself the power to make it easier for partisan actors\u2014their cronies\u2014to remove local election officials,\u201d Biden said at Atlanta University in January 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Biden stated concern that laws preventing voting by mail or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/republican-state-lawmakers-to-introduce-new-bills-to-limit-vote-by-mail-require-photo-id-to-vote-clean-dirty-voter-rolls\/\" title=\"Republican State Lawmakers to Introduce New Bills to Limit Vote-by-Mail, Require Photo ID to Vote, Clean Dirty Voter Rolls\">ballot drop boxes<\/a> would keep many from having their votes counted.<\/p>\n<p>Some 80 bills were introduced in 23 states this year that would place new limits on voting by mail and obtaining absentee ballots, according to the Brennan Center for Justice.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5289801\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n    <a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2023\/05\/24\/id5289801-GettyImages-1244624707-1200x799.jpg\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><\/noscript><\/figcaption><\/a><br \/>\n  <\/figure>\n<p>Trump\u2019s ideas for securing the vote are directly contrary to Biden\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe should have voter I.D. We should have one-day elections. We should have paper ballots instead of these mail-in votes,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n<p>His proposal would eliminate early voting and electronic voting machines. Trump did not specify whether one-day voting would allow for absentee ballots, which are frequently delivered by mail.<\/p>\n<p>Florida has banned the practice of ballot harvesting, DeSantis said, along with private donations to election departments to facilitate ballot counting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s what you should do,\u201d DeSantis said.<\/p>\n<p>The practice of donating to election departments gained notoriety after a nonprofit created by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg donated some $350 million to 2,500 election offices in 47 states.<\/p>\n<p>However, DeSantis favors voting by mail.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think telling people not to send in a mail ballot is a huge mistake,\u201d DeSantis said, who won reelection as governor in 2022 by 19 percentage points with the help of voters who don\u2019t typically vote in midterm elections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost of them chose to vote by absentee ballot through the mail. That was their choice. If we told them you can only vote on Election Day, some of them very well may not have voted.<\/p>\n<p>Pence has spoken about the need for election reform but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/in-depth-will-the-2024-election-be-secure-presidential-candidates-weigh-in\/\" title=\"2024 Election Security: Candidates Share Views\">avoided prescribing broad solutions<\/a>, leaving specific reforms to state legislatures.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cElection reform is a national imperative, but under our Constitution, election reform must be undertaken at the state level,\u201d he wrote in an article for the Heritage Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>Pence decried a federal law proposed in 2021 that would force states to adopt mail-in ballots, early voting, same-day voter registration, online voter registration, and other measures he sees as undermining election security.<\/p>\n<p>Haley believes some election regulations should be adopted on a national level.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEnsuring election integrity remains a top priority, and I believe that some election regulations should be adopted on a national level to ensure consistency and fairness,\u201d Haley said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>the 2024 presidential candidates regarding their concerns on election security.
