The aim of this project is to defend race-centered curriculum in American schools, while also taking a swipe at capitalism.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/newrepublic.com\/article\/173662\/black-history-absolute-necessity-colin-kaepernick-book-interview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">interview<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> with The New Republic, Kaepernick explains his decision to collaborate with Marxist academics Robin D.G. Kelley and Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor on the anthology &#8220;Our History Has Always Been Contraband: In Defense of Black Studies.&#8221; This book emerged from a battle over <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/revised-version-of-ap-african-american-studies-course-tones-down-wokeness-desantis-admin-reviewing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">AP African American Studies courses<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, which initially included elements of Critical Race Theory (CRT) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/exclusive-rep-jim-banks-gop-must-lean-into-cultural-issues-ahead-of-the-election\/\" title=\"Exclusive -- Rep. However, the curriculum was revised after pushback from Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Kaepernick, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/colin-kaepernick-defends-book-partnership-with-marxists-says-black-liberation-not-possible-under-capitalism\/\" title=\"Colin Kaepernick supports book partnership with Marxists, claims 'Black liberation' unattainable in capitalism.\">millionaire quarterback-turned-racial-activist<\/a>, states, &#8220;I&#8217;ve long admired Keeanga and Robin&#8217;s work as well as their uncompromising political analysis. They understand that Black liberation simply isn&#8217;t possible under capitalism. I believe the anthology effectively presents this argument and I hope it challenges readers to recognize that racism is not the sole ingredient of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/attack-ad-from-left-wing-activists-allowed-to-trend-on-twitter-inciting-violence-against-conservatives-the-liberty-loft\/\" title=\"Attack Ad From Left-Wing Activists Allowed to Trend On Twitter Inciting Violence Against Conservatives\">white supremacy<\/a>. White supremacy persists due to its connection with capitalism, heteropatriarchy, ableism, and more.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">According to Kaepernick, attacking &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cornell-professor-invents-critical-race-theory-watchdog-site\/\" title=\"Cornell Professor Invents Critical Race Theory Watchdog Site\">black studies<\/a>&#8221; is a crucial part of the &#8220;white supremacist political project&#8221; of Republicans like Governor Ron DeSantis, who opposed CRT-based curricula in schools.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In addition to editing the anthology, Kaepernick, Kelley, and Taylor have also contributed their own essays. The book also features essays by W.E.B. During that season, the 49ers had a disappointing record of 10 losses and only one win with Kaepernick as their quarterback.
