Version: 4.0.47--><h2>Special Counsel Jack Smith Wins Initial Battle Against Former President Donald Trump<\/h2>\n<p>Special Counsel Jack Smith has apparently won an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ukraine-is-waging-a-peoples-war-against-russia-how-will-it-end\/\" title=\"Ukraine Is Waging a \u201cPeople\u2019s War\u201d Against Russia: How Will It End?\">initial battle<\/a> in his case against former President Donald Trump in his prosecution of the case of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/senate-intel-committee-issues-bipartisan-request-for-more-info-on-mar-a-lago-raid\/\" title=\"Senate Intel Committee Issues Bipartisan Request for More Info on Mar-a-Lago Raid\">classified documents found<\/a> to be in Trump\u2019s possession at his Mar-a-Lago resort.<\/p>\n<p>Smith requested the order prior to the prosecution team\u2019s release of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/south-dakota-governor-noem-blocks-state-employees-from-downloading-tiktok\/\" title=\"South Dakota Governor Noem Blocks State Employees From Downloading TikTok\">possibly sensitive information<\/a> to the defense in preparation for trial, <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/judge-orders-trump-disclose-evidence-classified-documents-case\/story?id=100193266\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ABC News<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>Trump and his presidential valet, Walt Nauta, must by law be provided access to the information supporting the prosecution\u2019s case in order to allow them to conduct an adequate defense.<\/p>\n<p>Trump was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trump-beats-biden-whopping-number-post-arrest-poll\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">indicted<\/a> on June 9 for 31 counts involving the \u201cunauthorized possession and willful retention of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/in-depth-trump-indictment-rests-on-untested-legal-theory-experts-say\/\" title=\"Experts say Trump's indictment is based on an untested legal theory.\">national defense documents<\/a>, charges that fall under the Espionage Act,\u201d according to another, earlier, report from <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/legal-experts-break-trump-charges-motive-mentioned\/story?id=100038849\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ABC News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The former president also faces six additional charges for obstruction of justice and lying to investigators.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf it had just been the fact that he had this stuff and he turned it over, there would never have been an issue here,\u201d <strong>Nick Akerman, a former Watergate prosecutor<\/strong>, told ABC News. \u201cBut he had it and he went all out to make sure he kept it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ackerman described the indictment as \u201cdamning\u201d for the former president.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>U.S. Magistrate Judge Bruce E. Reinhart&#8217;s Order<\/h3>\n<p>Reinhart ordered that the defense team \u201cnot disclose the Discovery Materials or their contents directly or indirectly to any person or entity other than persons employed to assist in the defense, persons who are interviewed as potential witnesses, counsel for potential witnesses, and other persons to whom the Court may authorize disclosure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All such materials must remain in the guarded possession of the attorneys for the defense.<\/p>\n<p>Reinhart specifically ordered that neither Trump nor Nauta be permitted to take possession of any documents released to the defense during the discovery process, or even to make notes regarding them unless the notes are also retained by defense counsel.<\/p>\n<p>The order appeared to be aimed at keeping the former president from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/judge-gives-special-counsel-jack-smith-exactly-what-he-wants-issues-order-to-trump\/\" title=\"Judge grants Special Counsel Jack Smith's request, issues order to Trump.\">sharing disclosed material directly<\/a> with the public on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trump-returning-twitter-one-minor-detail-may-signal-45s-epic-comeback-platform\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA knowing violation of this Order by Defendants, Defense Counsel, and Authorized Persons may result in contempt of court or other civil or criminal sanctions,\u201d the order warned.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>You can read the judge\u2019s entire order <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/654016527\/Reinharts-Trump-Protective-Order#from_embed\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A similar order was issued on May 8 in the case against Trump involving allegedly criminal falsification of business records to cover up accusations of an affair with pornographic performer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/stormy-daniels-reveals-real-reason-took-hush-money-says-trump-shouldnt-go-prison\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stormy Daniels<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/judge-trump-criminal-case-issues-protective-order-prevent\/story?id=99181465\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ABC News<\/a> reported at the time.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has denied any wrongdoing in both cases.<\/p>\n<p>The post <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/judge-gives-special-counsel-jack-smith-exactly-wants-issues-order-trump\/\">Judge Gives Special Counsel Jack Smith Exactly What He Wants, Issues Order to Trump<\/a> appeared first on <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\">The Western Journal<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Special Counsel Jack Smith seems to have triumphed in his initial battle against ex-President Donald Trump.
