It\u2019s no joke any more though.<\/p>\n<p>In the wake of a whistleblower report of a $5 million bribe allegedly accepted by then-Vice President Biden to influence policy in Ukraine, Republican lawmakers are now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2023\/06\/14\/gop-lawmakers-question-joe-biden-corporation-10m-2017\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">demanding<\/a> transparency from the president regarding the substantial income he reported on his 2017 taxes.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-84886254\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-01b66aa5de702b4cf5ab10876a4190f0 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-01b66aa5de702b4cf5ab10876a4190f0\"><\/div>\n<p>The questions are long overdue. I first asked, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2020\/10\/28\/where-is-hunter-bidens-money\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Where Is Hunter Biden\u2019s Money?<\/a>\u201d just before the 2020 election, noting that civilian Biden had reported $9.5 million in income for fiscal year 2017 \u2014 almost twice as much as he had earned in the prior 19 years combined. A <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/04\/06\/joe-bidens-released-tax-returns-dont-explain-millions-in-income-where-did-it-come-from\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">subsequent piece<\/a> last year analyzed the accepted premise that this money had come from his book deal with Flatiron Books.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption>\n<div class=\"row no-gutters body-xs m-0 text-start\">\n<div class=\"col-12 col-md-4\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"col-12 col-md-8\">\n<div class=\"article-thumbnail-caption d-flex align-items-center justify-content-md-end label-xs mt-15\">         <i class=\"mdi mdi-camera me-10\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i>         <span class=\"visually-hidden\">Image Credit<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.taxnotes.com\/presidential-tax-returns\">Joe and Jill Biden\u2019s tax returns<\/a>       <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>What I\u00a0found was that \u201ca notable $8.7 million gap exists between (his income tax-reported) $9.5 million net income in 2017 and the $809,709 of disclosed income in that year from book tour and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/joe-bidens-tax-returns-leave-millions-in-income-unexplained\/\" title=\"Joe Biden\u2019s Tax Returns Leave Millions in Income Unexplained\">related speaking events<\/a>,\u201d and \u201csince his disclosure covers only part of 2017, we lack the insight into other income that may explain it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We lack the insight because this money flowed to Joe and Jill Biden by way of two S-corporations that they set up shortly after he left office in 2017, CelticCapri Corp. (his) and Giacoppa Corp. (hers). Despite claims that their tax returns had been released, the truth was that they only released their individual returns \u2014 not the upstream S-corporations\u2019 returns. Without those documents, it\u2019s simply impossible to know the sources of this anomalous income. What can be ascertained with basic math is that his dismal book sales could not have yielded that kind of money.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As I <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/04\/06\/joe-bidens-released-tax-returns-dont-explain-millions-in-income-where-did-it-come-from\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">noted<\/a>, \u201cFor analysis purposes, consider that his book had a retail price of $27 for hardcover and $18 for paperback, and assume a reasonable mix of sales so the average price was $23 (with no discounting). On 300,000 books sold, gross revenues would\u2019ve been just under $7 million. As an author, Biden would\u2019ve likely received about 12 percent of that using a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/joe-bidens-released-tax-returns-dont-explain-millions-in-income-where-did-it-come-from\/\" title=\"Joe Biden\u2019s Released Tax Returns Don\u2019t Explain Millions In Income. Where Did It Come From?\">blended royalty rate<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/literaryagentmarkgottlieb-com.cdn.ampproject.org\/v\/s\/literaryagentmarkgottlieb.com\/blog\/are-royalties-fair-a-publisher-weighs-in?amp_js_v=a6&#038;amp_gsa=1&#038;format=amp&#038;usqp=mq331AQKKAFQArABIIACAw%3D%3D#aoh=16489252680983&#038;referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">15 percent hardcover and 7.5 percent paperback typical from publishers<\/a>), yielding about $800,000 in income. Round it up to $1 million if you prefer. Double it. It\u2019s still not close to $8 million.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-004a1cbadbcd509f7484811ef726f892 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-004a1cbadbcd509f7484811ef726f892\"><\/div>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Members of Congress Push for Explanation<\/h2>\n<p>So the question of sources now looms large. How exactly does a former vice president rake in such a large amount of money without any logical explanation, without any functioning business, and without expertise in anything \u2014 except politics? Republicans in Congress are now interested in finding the answer.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2023\/06\/14\/gop-lawmakers-question-joe-biden-corporation-10m-2017\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">commented<\/a>, \u201cBiden should disclose (the source of the revenue) and every member of the press ought to hound him until he does.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Eli Crane, R-Ariz., also voiced concern about the unexplained income in light of the alleged pay-for-pay scheme, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2023\/06\/14\/gop-lawmakers-question-joe-biden-corporation-10m-2017\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">saying<\/a>, \u201cthe fact that there are credible claims signaling that a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/comer-fbi-confirmed-existence-of-document-that-alleges-joe-biden-bribery-scheme\/\" title=\"FBI confirms document alleging Joe Biden bribery scheme.\">foreign national bribed<\/a> the president of the United States with cash in exchange for influence over U.S. policy decisions is appalling. The American people deserve to know who paid the Bidens and what exactly they were paid for.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2023\/06\/14\/gop-lawmakers-question-joe-biden-corporation-10m-2017\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> \u201cthe president seems to find selling out our country funny. We don\u2019t. If he\u2019s serious about proving our allegations wrong, he should release his family\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/10-million-mystery-dollars-found-in-bidens-2017-tax-returns-republicans-demand-answers-amid-bribery-allegations\/\" title=\"Republicans are demanding answers over alleged bribery as  million mystery dollars are discovered in Biden's 2017 tax returns.\">unredacted bank records<\/a> and show the American people where all this money is coming from. The FBI can\u2019t protect him forever.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-64a35a83fc3ef3769ca7d48109fc93ee fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-64a35a83fc3ef3769ca7d48109fc93ee\"><\/div>\n<p>They have so far though.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The FBI and Democrats Protect Biden<\/h2>\n<p>The FBI\u2019s motto of \u201cFidelity, Bravery, Integrity\u201d has been wilting under the heat of the bureau\u2019s own improprieties. Without fail, it has only been reliable in eschewing all matters related to the Bidens, including ignoring Hunter\u2019s laptop, allowing a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/03\/18\/intelligence-experts-refuse-to-apologize-for-smearing-hunter-biden-story\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">false claim<\/a> that it was disinformation to propagate, <a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/release\/comer-forces-the-fbi-to-cooperate-and-allow-all-oversight-committee-members-to-review-biden-bribery-record\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hiding the FD-1023<\/a> whistleblower report regarding the alleged bribe from the owner of Burisma after <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/05\/31\/breadcrumbs-from-a-buried-fbi-source-may-lead-to-a-bigger-biden-scandal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">falsely assessing<\/a> that report as disinformation, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/05\/10\/fbi-refuses-to-give-congress-informant-file-alleging-biden-took-bribes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">refusing to release<\/a> the FD-1023 document to Congress when its existence was made known, finally allowing it to be viewed but only in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/news\/politics\/biden-investigation-fbi-defends-redacting-form-on-alleged-burisma-bribery-scheme\/ar-AA1cvOqL\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">redacted<\/a> form (despite it being unclassified), and, within all of this smoke screening, obscuring the fact that Joe is \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2023\/06\/12\/gop-lawmakers-fbi-informant-file-confirms-joe-biden-big-guy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the Big Guy<\/a>\u201d \u2014 a mobster-like moniker that seems to follow him around the globe from China to Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>Congressional Democrats aren\u2019t interested in investigating any of this either. Instead, House Oversight Committee Ranking Member Jamie Raskin, D-Md., has repeatedly <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/06\/12\/democrats-doubling-down-on-biden-bribery-lies-suggests-theyre-prepping-for-the-next-leak\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pushed the lie<\/a> that the DOJ had long ago closed the investigation into the bribery claims within the FD-1023, despite former Attorney General Bill Barr\u2019s statement to the contrary. And after pushing the case for releasing former President Donald Trump\u2019s tax returns all the way to the Supreme Court (which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/11\/22\/us\/supreme-court-trump-taxes-house-democrats.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">granted<\/a> their release), there\u2019s no indication that Democrats will show the same desire to see Biden\u2019s returns \u2014 meaning the full returns, inclusive of upstream entities.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Push for Special Counsel<\/h2>\n<p>Having had enough, a group of Senate Republicans is now <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/06\/13\/senate-republicans-demand-special-counsel-to-investigate-biden-bribery-claim\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">demanding<\/a> that Attorney General Merrick Garland appoint a special counsel to investigate the president\u2019s role in his family\u2019s overseas business deals \u2014 including the allegation of the $5 million bribe.<\/p>\n<p>Under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/cfr\/text\/28\/600.1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">federal code<\/a>, the attorney general is to appoint a special counsel \u201cwhen he or she determines that criminal investigation of a person or matter is warranted\u201d and \u201cthe investigation or prosecution \u2026 would present a conflict of interest for the Department (of Justice)\u201d and \u201cunder the circumstances, it would be in the public interest to appoint an outside Special Counsel.\u201d If a sworn allegation from a \u201chighly credible\u201d source of a seven-figure bribe of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/how-did-biden-really-make-his-millions-its-time-for-a-special-counsel-to-find-out\/\" title=\"Time for a Special Counsel to uncover Biden's wealth origins.\">top elected official isn\u2019<\/a>t sufficient to meet that standard, then what is? And if the long list of cover-ups, document denials, and general nose-thumbing at Congress doesn\u2019t indicate a partisan conflict of interest, then what does? Where are you, Garland?<\/p>\n<p>Even with honest effort, it will take tenacity and perseverance to put this financial puzzle together. The Burisma executive <a href=\"https:\/\/straightarrownews.com\/cc\/fbi-document-alleges-president-biden-part-of-5m-bribery-scheme\/#:~:text=The%20Burisma%20executive%20reportedly%20told%20the%20informant%20he,least%20%E2%80%9C10%20years%E2%80%9D%20to%20unravel%20the%20money%20trail.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">purportedly told<\/a> the informant that he had paid the Bidens through so many different bank accounts that it would take at least \u201c10 years\u201d to unravel the money trail. That may be true, but there is now evidence from both ends to pursue \u2014 evidence of both a source and a recipient.<\/p>\n<p>If a new special counsel can work at the speed at which Jack Smith pursued the indictment of Trump, then it should not take long to connect any dots.
