The former president pleaded not guilty in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/doj-asks-supreme-court-to-reject-trump-request-in-fbi-classified-documents-case\/\" title=\"DOJ Asks Supreme Court to Reject Trump Request in FBI Classified Documents Case\">classified documents case<\/a> at a federal courthouse in Miami on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<h3>U.S. AND CHINA LOCKED IN BATTLE TO BECOME SUPERIOR IN SPACE<\/h3>\n<p>The DOJ asked the court on Friday to sign off on a protective order to govern the handling of discovery information in the criminal case, telling the court that it had spoken with Trump and his co-defendant Walt Nauta, and that both had no objection to the terms of the proposal.<\/p>\n<p>The court filing was authored by Smith and Jay Bratt, DOJ\u2019s chief of counterintelligence, who was listed as \u201cCounselor to the Special Counsel\u201d in the filing.<\/p>\n<p>Trump-nominated Southern District of Florida Judge Aileen Cannon, who was criticized by the Justice Department last year for implementing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/donald-trump-arrested-trump-makes-a-deal-with-jack-smith-on-justice-department-discovery-info\/\" title=\"Trump arrested: Trump strikes deal with Jack Smith on DOJ discovery info.\">short-lived special master process<\/a> to oversee the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fbi-conducts-search-of-mike-pences-indiana-home-in-classified-documents-investigation\/\" title=\"FBI Conducts Search of Mike Pence's Indiana Home in Classified Documents Investigation\">classified documents investigation<\/a>, has been assigned to oversee the criminal case against Trump. Cannon will oversee much of the pretrial legal battle, a potential jury trial, and, if Trump is convicted, she will decide his prison sentence.<\/p>\n<p>Cannon sent the proposed discovery order to Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart on Friday for \u201cappropriate disposition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Smith and Bratt wrote that \u201cthe government is ready to provide unclassified discovery to the defense\u201d and the \u201cdiscovery materials include sensitive and confidential information\u201d such as \u201cpersonal identifiable\u201d information, information that reveals \u201csensitive but unclassified\u201d investigative techniques, \u201cnon-public information\u201d related to potential witnesses and including grand jury transcripts, and \u201cfinancial information\u201d on third parties.<\/p>\n<p>Discovery materials \u201calso include information pertaining to ongoing investigations, the disclosure of which could compromise those investigations and identify uncharged individuals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Smith and Bratt said the proposed protective order \u201cwill protect against unauthorized disclosure of sensitive information, while allowing the defense to use the materials in preparation of their defense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to 31 counts for the willful retention of national defense information, one count of conspiracy to obstruct justice, one count of withholding a document or record, one count of corruptly concealing a document or record, one count of concealing a document in a federal investigation, one count for a scheme to conceal, and one count related to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cruz-responds-to-faucis-attack-on-him-in-scathing-statement-doubles-down-on-call-for-criminal-probe\/\" title=\"Cruz Responds To Fauci\u2019s Attack On Him In Scathing Statement, Doubles Down On Call For Criminal Probe\">alleged false statements<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Nauta faces six criminal counts: conspiracy to obstruct justice, withholding of a document or record, corruptly concealing a document or record, concealing a document in a federal investigation, scheme to conceal, and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ex-clinton-lawyer-sussman-doesnt-want-durhams-expert-fbi-witness-to-testify-about-informations-accuracy\/\" title=\"Ex-Clinton Lawyer Sussman Doesn\u2019t Want Durham\u2019s Expert FBI Witness to Testify About Information\u2019s Accuracy\">false statements charge<\/a>. He did not enter a plea on Tuesday, receiving a two-week extension as he seeks a local attorney in Florida.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed protective order agreed to by the prosecutors, Trump, and Nauta on Friday says that \u201cdefendants and defense counsel shall not disclose the discovery materials or their contents\u201d to anyone except for those assisting in their defense, potential witnesses, lawyers for potential witnesses, and other court-authorized people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDefendants shall only have access to discovery materials under the direct supervision of defense counsel or a member of defense counsel\u2019s staff,\u201d the proposed order says. \u201cDefendants shall not retain copies of discovery material. Defendants may take notes regarding discovery materials, but such notes shall be stored securely by defense counsel or a member of defense counsel\u2019s staff in the same manner as the discovery materials.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The proposed order also says that \u201cthe discovery materials, along with any information derived therefrom, shall not be disclosed to the public or the news media, or disseminated on any news or social media platform, without prior notice to and consent of the United States or approval of the court.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\">CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Smith\u2019s indictment alleges Trump knowingly and willfully mishandled classified documents after he departed the White House and resisted efforts to return them to the National Archives. The government alleges he retained 31 documents related to sensitive defense secrets, from nuclear programs to attack plans, shared them with people without clearances on at least two occasions, and was personally involved in the decision to withhold them.<\/p>\n<p>Trump, the front-runner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, has maintained his innocence, and his legal team said he won&#8217;t take a plea deal.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former President Donald Trump has consented to special counsel Jack Smith&#8217;s request for the Justice Department to provide unclassified discovery.
