One wonders, however, whether perhaps they should be looking to the New Testament, in particular to the Tribulation described in the Book of Revelation.<\/p>\n<p>Those who anticipate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/catholic-mlb-player-unleashes-dodgers-urges-fans-take-action-look-jesus-christ\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jesus Christ\u2019s<\/a> second coming are not alone. Belief in Christ\u2019s imminent return has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/senator-elizabeth-warren-claims-filibuster-has-deep-roots-in-racism\/\" title=\"Senator Elizabeth Warren Claims Filibuster \u2018Has Deep Roots In Racism\u2019\">deep roots<\/a> in Christian history.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps the most famous (or infamous) example occurred in the United States in the middle of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-little-known-story-of-an-irish-regiment-that-helped-turn-the-tides-of-the-american-civil-war\/\" title=\"The Little Known Story Of An Irish Regiment That Helped Turn The Tides Of\u00a0The American Civil War\">nineteenth century<\/a>, when Baptist minister William Miller attracted thousands of followers by predicting that Christ would return sometime during the period between March 21, 1843, and March 21, 1844.<\/p>\n<p>In his essay, \u201cThe World\u2019s Last Night,\u201d C.S. Lewis described the scene as only he could: \u201cThousands waited for the Lord at midnight on March 21st, and went home to a late breakfast on the 22nd followed by the jeers of a drunkard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There is no reason to suspect that the Japanese developers are a bunch of modern-day William Millers.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, we may yet have cause to jeer them, albeit for reasons unlike those of the gleeful drunkard.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Sun report, the new floating city \u201cwould be resilient to an apocalypse.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">N-ARK envisions \u2018dogen city\u2019 as a floating and smart healthcare city that follows an economic model dubbed \u2018NEW OCEAN\u2019. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/j5lL3wPpDv\">https:\/\/t.co\/j5lL3wPpDv<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ZFuymaWLFO\">pic.twitter.com\/ZFuymaWLFO<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 designboom (@designboom) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/designboom\/status\/1667304326795067393?\">June 9, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Furthermore, it would feature a \u201crange of buildings, including a sports stadium,\u201d along with \u201can undersea data [center] and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/tulsi-gabbard-demands-mitt-romneys-resignation-over-treasonous-liar-comment\/\" title=\"Tulsi Gabbard Demands Mitt Romney\u2019s Resignation Over \u201cTreasonous Liar\u201d Comment\">medical research facilities<\/a>.\u201d In the new city, named \u201cDogen City,\u201d everything would float. Buildings could be relocated simply by sailing them from one place to another.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cN-Ark\u2019s development roadmap currently earmarks the year 2030 for completion, and designers see the city as a sea-based version of Elon Musk\u2019s SpaceX,\u201d the Sun reported.<\/p>\n<p>The developers\u2019 breathtaking vision, steeped in the human quest for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/new-film-innovation-race-exposes-communist-chinas-plan-use-tech-dominate-world-economically-militarily\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">innovation<\/a>, deserves no mockery.<\/p>\n<p>As for the apocalypse-defying pretensions, let the jeering begin.<\/p>\n<p>Readers might recall that in 2014 the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esa.int\/Science_Exploration\/Space_Science\/Rosetta\/Touchdown!_Rosetta_s_Philae_probe_lands_on_comet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">European Space Agency<\/a> landed a probe on a comet. To someone who fails half the times he tries throwing crumpled papers into a waste basket, a successful rendezvous with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/zg-blood-moon-will-be-among-trio-of-must-see-astronomy-events-in-november\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">heavenly object<\/a> moving at a high rate of speed seemed an especially remarkable achievement.<\/p>\n<p>I remember thinking that way at the time. Alas, I do not remember thinking much about the comet.<\/p>\n<p>It is one thing to marvel at human accomplishments. It is another thing to take excessive pride in them when we know \u2014 or we ought to know \u2014 that the comet, like the human race, is God\u2019s creation. A single flick of the divine hand could send a thousand such comets hurtling toward Earth.<\/p>\n<p>This thought should give pause to those who believe their creations will be \u201cresilient to an apocalypse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On the subject of the End Times, as on most related subjects, it might be best to give C.S. Lewis the final word.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe doctrine of the Second Coming teaches us that we do not and cannot know when the world drama will end.
