But the plan would slash spending for the environment, public assistance and foreign aid,\u201d the wire service added. \u201cIt would also increase spending for border security, drug enforcement and countering China.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While this brought out all sort of Chicken Little-ing in the media, again fearful <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-says-cant-guarantee-us-wont-default-debt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">of a default<\/a> by the federal government, McCarthy\u2019s social media clip is some good advice for them: Relax.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI worry about you guys. You always come with the negative,\u201d McCarthy said in the clip. \u201cYou\u2019ve got to be more positive in life. You are all Americans. You always worry every day, you come to me and say, \u2018Oh, are you going to default now? Oh, you\u2019re going to have a shutdown? I don\u2019t give up on my members. I don\u2019t give up on you. We\u2019re going to have a press conference one day that\u2019s all positive. Watch on Wednesday, for instance, as he dismantles the FBI\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globest.com\/2023\/03\/22\/maryland-virginia-compete-for-4b-fbi-headquarters\/?slreturn=20230515234516\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">request<\/a> for $4 billion to replace the J. I\u2019d argue it fits with William Wordsworth\u2019s proverbial \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.poetryfoundation.org\/poems\/45512\/character-of-the-happy-warrior\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Happy Warrior<\/a>,\u201d a term most memorably applied in recent American politics to former President Ronald Reagan.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, there are battles ahead. The debt ceiling deal was imperfect, a problem exacerbated by the White House\u2019s refusal to even consider negotiation until it became clear their plan of getting a \u201cclean\u201d debt ceiling raise (i.e., one that didn\u2019t involve compromise) until the last minute.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/rep-chip-roy-lays-problems-mccarthy-biden-debt-ceiling-deal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">conservatives are rightly upset<\/a> and slowing down the legislative process as a result. Yes, they could force both sides back to the table. And yes, the White House is spending like a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/aocs-spending-rant-would-have-jfk-rolling-in-his-grave-highlights-how-far-dems-have-fallen\/\" title=\"AOC's Spending Rant Would Have JFK Rolling in His Grave, Highlights How Far Dems Have Fallen\">drunken poker player<\/a> while it prosecutes its political opposition for alleged classified document mishandling not entirely dissimilar from that which the occupant of the Oval Office engaged with.<\/p>\n<p>Say this about McCarthy, though: He\u2019s displayed a first class temperament throughout these past few turbulent weeks in American political history. To use Wordsworth\u2019s poem, the Happy Warrior \u201cthrough the heat of conflict, keeps the law \/ In calmness made, and sees what he foresaw; \/ Or if an unexpected call succeed, \/ Come when it will, is equal to the need: \/ \u2014He who, though thus endued as with a sense \/ And faculty for storm and turbulence, \/ Is yet a Soul whose master-bias leans \/ To homefelt pleasures and to gentle scenes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A hope that the media will one day be positive amid storms its bias creates may appear to some conservatives prone to distrusting McCarthy\u2019s bona fides a bit Pollyannaish. I\u2019d argue that, given the circumstances, it could be seen as positively Wordsworthian.
