I guess \u2014 I literally suppose \u2014 that he would do anything,&#8221; Maddow said for the setup.<\/h3>\n<p>&#8220;And if it&#8217;s going to come to him <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nonbinary-biden-administration-official-ordered-to-undergo-mental-health-evaluation-after-avoiding-jail-time\/\" title=\"\u2018Nonbinary\u2019 Biden Administration Official Ordered to Undergo Mental Health Evaluation After Avoiding Jail Time\">avoiding jail time<\/a>, now that this indictment exists, he&#8217;s either going to have to win in court defending yourself against these charges \u2014 by saying, &#8216;Yes, I did it&#8217; is not a great defense \u2014 so how else can you avoid jail time?&#8221; she continued.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Well, you can plea in exchange for leniency,&#8221; Maddow declared, acknowledging that it might still mean jail time in certain scenarios.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What can he offer prosecutors other than his confession, his cooperation? I mean, this is a crime he could only commit because he was in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/read-the-letter-bidens-scotus-pick-wrote-calling-a-journalist-irredeemably-evil\/\" title=\"Read the Letter Biden\u2019s SCOTUS Pick Wrote Calling a Journalist \u2018Irredeemably Evil\u2019\">high public office<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>She went on to cite the way former Vice President Spiro Agnew <a href=\"https:\/\/www.history.com\/this-day-in-history\/vice-president-agnew-resigns\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">left office<\/a> while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/rachel-maddow-says-the-quiet-part-out-loud-about-trumps-indictment\/\" title=\"Rachel Maddow openly reveals Trump's indictment.\">facing tax evasion charges<\/a> in 1973 as his &#8220;get out of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/schumer-on-impeachment-senate-will-conduct-a-timely-and-fair-trial\/\" title=\"Schumer on Impeachment: Senate will conduct a timely and fair trial\">jail free card<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This bargain with the Department of Justice ensured that he would not be there as a successor to Richard Nixon should the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watergate-figure-jan-6-surprise-witness-better-meet-big-deal-standard\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Watergate<\/a> scandal take out the then-president (like Trump, it&#8217;s arguable that Nixon&#8217;s eventual resignation was the aim of the government&#8217;s investigation all along).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In order to keep Agnew out, they traded him essentially jail time for his resignation,&#8221; Maddow recalled.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m not saying that&#8217;s what the DOJ should agree to,&#8221; she said in Trump&#8217;s case.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m not saying that&#8217;s what Trump should try for, or his defense should offer it. The MSNBC host called Trump&#8217;s withdrawal from the race in a plea deal a &#8220;political solution to this criminal problem&#8221; during an appearance on MSNBC&#8217;s &#8220;The Last Word with Lawrence O&#8217;Donnell.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Although Maddow doesn&#8217;t have any official sway in the matter, she&#8217;s saying the quiet part out loud about this whole legal mess.<\/p>\n<p>After all, the government didn&#8217;t care so much when it was President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/joe-biden-classified-documents-bomb-dropped-live-jesse-watters-show\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joe Biden<\/a>, former Vice President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-pence-takes-full-responsibility-classified-docs-found\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mike Pence<\/a>, or even twice-failed presidential candidate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/top-dem-consultant-pollster-spills-beans-clintons-obama-interview-tucker-carlson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hillary Clinton<\/a> being careless with America&#8217;s secrets.<\/p>\n<p>But now that the charges pertain to Biden&#8217;s most <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/post-indictment-poll-offers-incredible-news-trump-beats-biden-desantis-doesnt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">formidable<\/a> 2024 adversary, it&#8217;s being treated as the crime of the century.<\/p>\n<p>The left&#8217;s burning hatred for Trump is matched only by their fear that he may beat the age-addled and unpopular Biden in 2024 \u2014 and they&#8217;re becoming desperate to make sure that doesn&#8217;t happen.<\/p>\n<p>The left has figured out that the best scenario to get Trump out of the way \u2014 short of making him sleep with the fishes \u2014 is to corner him into dropping out of the race altogether.<\/p>\n<p>This is a last-ditch effort to save Biden from certain defeat, and they have no problem being as ruthless and unflinching as mobsters to get it done.<\/p>\n<p>The post <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/rachel-maddow-says-quiet-part-loud-trumps-indictment\/\">Rachel Maddow Says the Quiet Part Out Loud About Trump&#8217;s Indictment<\/a> appeared first on <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\">The Western Journal<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MSNBC&#8217;s Rachel Maddow speculates that the Justice Department could present an offer to former President Donald Trump that he cannot reject.
