Version: 4.0.47--><h2>A Systematic Review Reveals the Devastating Reality of Lockdowns<\/h2>\n<p>A systematic review of COVID-19 lockdowns by researchers in the U.K. has found that they had a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ny-post-editorial-board-bidens-green-tax-breaks-for-the-rich-driving-nation-deeper-into-red\/\" title=\"NY Post Editorial Board: Biden\u2019s Green Tax Breaks for the Rich Driving Nation Deeper Into Red\">net negative impact<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The stay-at-home orders imposed \u201csubstantial social, cultural, and economic costs\u201d while failing to achieve the goal of significantly reducing deaths, the researchers found.<\/p>\n<p>Three years after they were first instituted, the new <a href=\"https:\/\/iea.org.uk\/media\/lockdowns-were-a-costly-failure-finds-new-iea-book\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">study<\/a> called the lockdown measures \u201ca failure of gigantic proportions.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>\u201cTwo Weeks to Stop the Spread\u201d<\/h3>\n<p>In March 2020 and onward, schools and businesses were shut down while citizens whose livelihoods were not deemed \u201cessential\u201d were encouraged and in some cases compelled by governments to remain in their homes.<\/p>\n<p>At first, the mantra was \u201ctwo weeks to stop the spread.\u201d Those two weeks stretched out to years in some places as people were told that even going outside might be unsafe.<\/p>\n<p>People who criticized or refused to abide by COVID orders found themselves chastised by the media and their peers, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/twitter-censors-top-white-house-covid-adviser-mask-post\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">censored<\/a> online and even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/covid-study-calls-question-every-bureaucrat-cops-arrest-people-parks-beaches\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">arrested<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now, a thorough <a href=\"https:\/\/iea.org.uk\/media\/lockdowns-were-a-costly-failure-finds-new-iea-book\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">analysis<\/a> by the Institute of Economic Affairs, a nonpartisan British think tank, vindicates those who were skeptical of the idea of sacrificing personal liberty for a false sense of security.<\/p>\n<h3>What Really Happened<\/h3>\n<p>The data compiled by IEA shows\u00a0how truly ineffective lockdowns were as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/homeland-security-authorizes-tsa-to-enforce-joe-biden-mask-mandate\/\" title=\"Homeland Security Authorizes TSA to Enforce Joe Biden Mask Mandate\">public health measure<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Lockdowns, the analysis found, \u201creduced mortality by 3.2 per cent\u201d compared to countries like Sweden that instituted less stringent measures.<\/p>\n<p>Swedish officials were branded as \u201creckless\u201d and an example of \u201cblind patriotism\u201d by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/limbaugh-calling-on-moderate-democrats\/\" title=\"LIMBAUGH: Calling On \u2018Moderate\u2019 Democrats\">liberal media outlets<\/a> in the U.S., such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2020\/05\/06\/europe\/sweden-coronavirus-diary-shukla\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2020\/05\/03\/risk-swedens-coronavirus-strategy-blind-patriotism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Washington Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That is the same corporate media that broadly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/cnn-mocked-labeling-kenosha-mostly-peaceful-footage-showed-opposite\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">supported<\/a> and justified the Black Lives Matter protests and riots during the pandemic but wanted Thanksgiving dinner canceled.<\/p>\n<p>According to IEA\u2019s analysis, lockdowns prevented around 1,700 deaths in England and Wales, 6,000 deaths across the rest of Europe and 4,000 deaths in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>When compared to the number of flu deaths in a typical season, those figures are shockingly low.<\/p>\n<p>For example, in England and Wales alone, the annual flu death toll ranges from 18,500 to 24,800 annually, while 38,000 Americans die of the flu every year on average.<\/p>\n<p>The study\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/unlocking-the-truth-the-devastating-reality-of-lockdowns-revealed\/\" title=\"Unveiling the Harsh Truth: Lockdowns' Devastating Impact Exposed\">findings undermine initial predictions made<\/a> by the Imperial College of London, which in March 2020 estimated that lockdowns would save over 400,000 lives in the U.K. and more than 2 million lives in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Lars Jonung, professor emeritus at Sweden\u2019s Lund University and one of the study\u2019s co-authors, described lockdown policies as a \u201cfailed promise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jonung wrote, \u201cThey had negligible health effects but disastrous economic, social and political costs to society. Most likely lockdowns represent the biggest policy mistake in modern times.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The researchers pored over almost 20,000 studies and chose 22 for their meta-analysis of mortality data. It suggests that lockdowns yielded little to no overall benefit.<\/p>\n<p>Voluntary actions, rather than compelled isolation, were effective by themselves in reducing COVID-19 transmission.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, the analysis found that limits placed on gatherings might have actually increased COVID mortality by almost 6 percent.<\/p>\n<p>In some cases, mandates encouraged people to stay in enclosed environments where they were more likely to contract the virus.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>The Price Paid<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The authors of the study concluded that lockdowns ultimately damaged the mental health of those who lived under them.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, <a href=\"https:\/\/nida.nih.gov\/research-topics\/trends-statistics\/overdose-death-rates\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">data<\/a> from the National Institutes of Health shows a correlation between lockdowns and drug overdose deaths.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019 \u2014 the year before lockdowns were instituted \u2014 70,630 Americans died of a drug overdose. That number rose to 91,799 in 2020 and to 106,699 in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Lockdowns also brought entire economies to an almost complete halt and initiated a historic transfer of wealth from working-class people to those who were already wealthy.<\/p>\n<p>In the U.S., for example, people were paid to stay home from work.
