The document relays allegations from a trusted and paid source, they said, concerning how an <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NEWSMAX\/status\/1667203652199780353\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">executive for Burisma Holdings<\/a>, a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/mtg-says-bribery-allegations-against-biden-linked-to-burisma\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ukrainian gas company<\/a> that employed Hunter Biden on its board for several years, angled to bribe away an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/alleged-ukraine-bribes-stoke-fear-that-biden-is-compromised\/\" title=\"Suspected Ukraine bribes fuel concerns of Biden's compromise.\">anti-corruption investigation perceived<\/a> as hurting Burisma\u2019s chances to buy into the U.S. energy market. GOP members conveyed how these shady dealings might be commonplace in Ukraine, but high-ranking U.S. officials have no business being anywhere near these pay-for-play schemes.<\/p>\n<h3>The Burisma Connection and Biden&#8217;s Actions as Vice President<\/h3>\n<p>Burisma is a familiar name as it came up often during the 2020 election cycle, leading up to the first impeachment of former President Donald Trump, who was later acquitted by the GOP-led Senate. During his time as vice president, Biden sought to pressure Ukraine into firing top prosecutor Viktor Shokin, who is suspected to have conducted an anti-corruption investigation into Burisma and its owner, by threatening to withhold $1 billion in U.S. loan guarantees to the Ukrainian government. There is a video of Biden seemingly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c-span.org\/video\/?c4820105\/user-clip-biden-tells-story-ukraine-prosecutor-fired\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bragging at a 2018 event<\/a> about how Ukraine fired Shokin after he made this demand, while Biden contends that Shokin was fired due to his own history of corruption in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>Trump and his supporters pushed claims that Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-questions-joe-biden-hunter-biden-88e27ca2b5e6d7c821d9a6a0ba0e04f8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">acted in order to protect<\/a> his son and Burisma, as noted <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-questions-joe-biden-hunter-biden-88e27ca2b5e6d7c821d9a6a0ba0e04f8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">by the Associated Press<\/a>. Trump\u2019s then-personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, even brought forward information that federal investigators <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/26ecd17c8fcf7fc26b9e2df44325a83a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">were tasked with examining<\/a>. Detractors pushed back by pointing to assertions that Shokin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/as-vice-president-biden-said-ukraine-should-increase-gas-production-then-his-son-got-a-job-with-a-ukrainian-gas-company\/2019\/07\/21\/f599f42c-86dd-11e9-98c1-e945ae5db8fb_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">may not have been actively investigating<\/a> Burisma as well as contentions that the United States and its allies called for Shokin\u2019s ouster <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/116\/meeting\/house\/110331\/documents\/HMKP-116-JU00-20191211-SD440.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">over the view that the prosecutor was generally ineffective<\/a> at rooting out corruption.<\/p>\n<h3>Following the Money: Uncovering a &#8220;Web of LLCs&#8221;<\/h3>\n<p>Whatever the case, Comer seems convinced that following the money is key to clearing up the uncertainty, not just in cases involving Ukraine, but other countries as well. That is if he can untangle what he has described as a \u201cweb of LLCs.\u201d At least 20 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepJamesComer\/status\/1668719542472671233\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201csham\u201d companies<\/a> and complicated financial transactions have been used to hide money funneled to members of the Biden family from foreign countries, Comer said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepJamesComer\/status\/1668719542472671233\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tweet<\/a>. This follows House Oversight Committee Republicans paying a visit to the Treasury Department in April for an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/republicans-raise-alarm-about-biden-family-after-treasury-visit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">examination of Biden-related suspicious activity reports (SARs)<\/a> used by financial institutions to flag possible criminal behavior.<\/p>\n<h3>Political Backlash and Calls for Transparency<\/h3>\n<p>Though the GOP-led oversight panel said its investigation may inform <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/comer-introduces-contempt-resolution-against-fbi-director\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">legislative reforms to strengthen disclosure requirements<\/a>, Biden called the corruption allegations <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/06\/08\/fbi-tip-says-burisma-bribed-bidens-prez-asks-wheres-the-money\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201ca bunch of malarkey\u201d<\/a> and Democrats in Congress dismissed the GOP inquiry as a politically motivated endeavor to tar Biden ahead of the 2024 election.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), the top Democrat on the oversight panel, issued statements that <a href=\"https:\/\/oversightdemocrats.house.gov\/news\/press-releases\/ranking-member-raskin-s-statement-on-oversight-republicans-decision-to-accept-0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sought to tie<\/a> the Ukraine informant\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/oversightdemocrats.house.gov\/news\/press-releases\/ranking-member-raskin-s-statement-following-review-of-debunked-fbi-tip\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">work to Giuliani<\/a>, whose own dealings with Ukraine <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/11\/14\/giuliani-ukraine-fbi-trump-00066840\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">have been subject to scrutiny<\/a>. Federal investigators <a href=\"https:\/\/oversightdemocrats.house.gov\/news\/press-releases\/ranking-member-raskin-s-statement-on-oversight-republicans-decision-to-accept-0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">closed the assessment<\/a> into the bribery allegations, which made it clear the \u201cTrump Justice Department concluded that the evidence failed to justify further inquiry,\u201d Raskin added.<\/p>\n<p>But in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/opinion\/joe-biden-sell-out-america-4-things-know-democrats-claims\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox News op-ed<\/a> this week, Comer pushed back on the Giuliani connection, stressing the informant\u2019s claims were separate from documents Giuliani gave to the FBI in January 2020, and he said the FBI confirmed that the confidential human source\u2019s information is being used in an \u201congoing investigation.\u201d The chairman pointed to how former Attorney General <a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/release\/icymi-former-ag-barr-refutes-democrats-lies-that-biden-bribery-investigation-was-closed%EF%BF%BC\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">William Barr said<\/a> the allegations were sent to Delaware, where U.S. Attorney David Weiss has been conducting a probe into Hunter Biden\u2019s financial affairs, \u201cfor further investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Comer said \u201cdisinformation\u201d put forward by the Left underscores the need for the FBI to actually produce the FD-1023 form to his committee, not just show redacted copies to panel members as it has done so far. \u201cWe need to know what, if anything, the FBI did to verify the serious allegations contained within this record,\u201d Comer said. \u201cThe American people need to know if President Biden sold out the United States to make money for himself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When he first demanded the FBI share the document with allegations about a $5 million bribery scheme in early May, Comer <a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/release\/grassley-comer-demand-fbi-record-alleging-criminal-scheme-involving-then-vp-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said he\u00a0learned<\/a> about its existence from protected disclosures to the office of Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grassley.senate.gov\/about\/results\/government-accountability\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">vocal whistleblower proponent<\/a> in Congress.<\/p>\n<p>Providing yet another assist the Comer, Grassley <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/opinion\/joe-biden-sell-out-america-4-things-know-democrats-claims\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">appeared on the Senate floor<\/a> this week to announce that he has read a version of the 2020 FD-1023 file that has fewer redactions than what the FBI permitted members of the oversight panel to see. He shared that the redacted sections show the informant saying the foreign national claimed to have 17 audio recordings between himself and Hunter Biden as well 5 with then-Vice President Joe Biden \u201cas a sort of insurance policy\u201d just in case \u201che got into a tight spot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The FBI has strived to say as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/ted-cruz-blasts-the-deputy-director-of-the-fbi-over-allegations-biden-took-5-million-in-bribes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">little as possible<\/a> about the document despite the revelations. In testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, FBI Deputy Director Paul Abbate said he has <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/06\/14\/fbi-deputy-director-paul-abbate-says-he-has-no-idea-if-there-are-tapes-of-alleged-biden-bribes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cno idea\u201d<\/a> if there are voice recordings, though he stressed the document that allegedly mentions them is redacted to protect the source.<\/p>\n<p>Although Comer called off a contempt hearing last week, the FBI may yet face the wrath of the GOP-led House if more standoffs. Asked about the recordings mentioned by Grassley this week, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-12189867\/Republican-Steve-Scalise-vows-press-make-Burisma-execs-phone-calls-public.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told the Daily Mail<\/a> the House is \u201cgonna press to get everything we can out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Expanding his corruption inquiry, Comer <a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Letter-to-Archer-061223.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">subpoenaed Devon Archer<\/a>, who is believed to have played a role in Biden family deals involving countries such as Ukraine, Russia, and China, demanding a deposition.
