The Inclusive Schools Network Institute, hosted<\/a> by the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) in conjunction with Gender Spectrum, focuses on building \u201cgender-sensitive\u201d schools.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The five-day conference, taking place from June 13-16 with an additional session on June 23, costs anywhere from $1,270 to $2,157 to attend, depending on when guests sign up and whether they have a NAIS membership.<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>NAIS<\/span><\/a> is a non-profit organization with a membership of more than 1,600 K-12 schools within the United States. It is America\u2019s largest private school accreditation organization.<\/span><\/p>\n

The online conference will cover several different topics, including \u201cdimensions of gender, key terminology, and the spectrum framework for gender,\u201d as well as \u201cbest practices for supporting transgender and other gender-expansive students.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Other subjects include \u201cgender at the intersection of race, power, and identity\u201d and a \u201cclimate assessment and making a case for gender education in schools.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

NAIS notes that the conference is \u201copen to all educators who are interested in creating more gender inclusivity in their schools\u201d but specifically targets \u201cHeads of school,\u201d \u201cCurriculum specialists,\u201d \u201cK-12 classroom teachers,\u201d and \u201cDiversity and equity professionals,\u201d among others.<\/span><\/p>\n

Gender Spectrum <\/span>describes itself<\/span><\/a> as \u201ca national organization committed to the health and well-being of gender-diverse children.\u201d <\/span>The California-based group <\/span>works alongside<\/span><\/a>\u00a0educational organizations and has also published a list of <\/span>educator resources<\/span><\/a>, as well as a \u201c<\/span>gender support plan<\/span><\/a>\u201d for students. <\/span>It has a history of working alongside sex change clinics, including those that operate on minors. The organization hosted a <\/span>series of talks<\/span><\/a> with sex change surgeons last year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

One session<\/a> in the \u201cGender Affirming Surgery Series\u201d titled \u201cVaginoplasty\u201d focused on \u201cthe surgical journey of a young patient as they navigate towards the goal of aligning their bodies with their identity in the form of vaginoplasty.\u201d <\/span>It included discussions on \u201cpicking a surgical team\u201d as well as \u201cpreparing for a consultation\u201d and \u201cdetails of the procedure.\u201d Another session in the series focuses on \u201c<\/span>top surgery<\/span><\/a>,\u201d while a third discussed <\/span>facial surgery<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The series was held in conjunction with the Gender Confirmation Center, a San Francisco-based <\/span>surgical clinic<\/span><\/a> that has <\/span>provided<\/span><\/a> \u201cgender-affirming surgeries\u201d to adolescents. The clinic offers \u201ctop surgery,\u201d \u201cbottom surgery,\u201d \u201cbody contouring,\u201d and \u201c<\/span>gender confirming<\/span><\/a> facial surgery.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A different session<\/a>, called \u201cNavigating a Gender Clinic,\u201d was also held last year. \u201cHow do you navigate a gender clinic? What is a gender clinic? At what age can you access it and what services are available?\u201d an Instagram caption on a post advertising the session read. It<\/span>\u00a0also promised to provide <\/span>\u201cGuidance around gender affirming products and techniques such as: binding, packing, tucking and more.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The session was held in conjunction with the Ann and Robert Lurie Children\u2019s Hospital of Chicago, which has a pediatric transgender clinic that previously <\/span>received seed funding<\/span><\/a>, as well as an additional million-dollar donation, from transgender billionaire Jennifer Pritzker\u2019s foundation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Both the Gender Confirmation Center and Align Surgical Associates, another sex change surgical clinic, were listed as <\/span>sponsors<\/span><\/a> at a conference held by Gender Spectrum in 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n

Gender Spectrum also <\/span>sells a book<\/span><\/a> called \u201cThe Transgender Child,\u201d which \u201c<\/span>has been lauded as the most trusted source of information for families wanting to understand and affirm their transgender, gender-expansive, or nonbinary child.\u201d The book was co-authored by Stephanie Brill, the founder of Gender Spectrum.<\/span><\/p>\n

The NAIS, which hosted this same <\/span>conference<\/span><\/a> in 2022, did not respond to a request for comment. <\/span><\/p>\n
