On Tuesday, Trump was arrested and charged, and he entered a plea of not guilty to all the counts.<\/p>\n<p>When pressed, Pence claimed that \u201c<strong>first off, these are serious charges.<\/strong>\u201d He added, \u201cAnd as I said, I can\u2019t defend what\u2019s been alleged, but the president does deserve to make his defense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I would say to each one of you, look, I\u2019ve been a former governor,\u201d Pence said. \u201cI\u2019ve actually granted pardons to people and I take the pardon authority very seriously. It\u2019s an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/pence-weighs-in-on-pardoning-trump-if-hes-convicted-in-federal-case\/\" title=\"Pence considers pardoning Trump if convicted federally.\">enormously important power<\/a> of someone in an executive position. And I just think it\u2019s premature to have any conversation about that right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Travis then suggested to Pence that his comment about letting the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/youngkin-sets-up-tip-line-for-parents-to-report-teachers-using-divisive-practices\/\" title=\"Youngkin Sets Up Tip Line For Parents To Report Teachers Using \u2018Divisive\u2019 Practices\">legal process play<\/a> out isn\u2019t a sign of great leadership.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think you know what the president\u2019s defense is, do you?\u201d Pence said in response. \u201cI mean, what are the facts? I mean, look, we either believe in our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/israeli-lawmakers-call-icc-anti-semitic-a-sham-after-ruling-regarding-war-crimes-investigation\/\" title=\"Israeli lawmakers call ICC \u2018anti-Semitic\u2019, a \u2018sham\u2019 after ruling regarding war crimes investigation\">judicial process<\/a> in this country or we don\u2019t. We either stand by the rule of law or we don\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Twitter, Travis later criticized Pence over the interview and claimed the former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/pence-weighs-in-on-pardoning-trump-if-hes-convicted\/\" title=\"Pence considers pardoning Trump if convicted.\">vice president \u201crefused<\/a> to answer if he\u2019d pardon\u201d Trump. \u201cThings got a bit heated as I pressed him on why he wouldn\u2019t answer,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Also Wednesday, Pence told the Daily Wire that he believes Trump\u2019s arrest is a \u201csad day in this life of this nation,\u201d adding that \u201cno one\u2019s above the law.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5320607\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2023\/06\/08\/id5320607-GettyImages-1496746416-1200x800.jpg\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><\/noscript><\/figcaption><\/a> Former Vice President Mike Pence, joined by his wife Karen, greets supporters after formally announcing his intention to seek the Republican nomination for president in Ankeny, Iowa, on June 7, 2023. (Scott Olson\/Getty Images)<\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI mean, literally, to see a former President of the United States in the dock and face charges in a criminal indictment, I think is deeply discouraging to millions of Americans,\u201d Pence <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/former-vice-president-mike-pence-calls-trump-arraignment-sad-day-for-america\">said<\/a>. \u201cThat being said, you know, no one\u2019s above the law. And as Americans, we\u2019re innocent until proven guilty and I had the opportunity to review the indictment over the weekend. And I will tell you, these are serious charges and I can\u2019t defend what is alleged, but the president deserves his day in court.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Several other GOP presidential candidates, including businessman Vivek Ramaswamy and radio host Larry Elder, have indicated that they would pardon Trump if he\u2019s convicted.<\/p>\n<p>Another candidate, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2023\/06\/13\/nikki-haley-trump-indictment-pardon-00101795\">told Politico<\/a> on Wednesday that she is \u201cinclined in favor\u201d of pardoning Trump should she get elected and he get convicted. \u201cWhen you look at a pardon, the issue is less about guilt and more about what\u2019s good for the country,\u201d Haley stated. \u201cAnd I think it would be terrible for the country to have a former president in prison for years because of a documents case.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo I would be inclined in favor of a pardon,\u201d she also remarked.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, 2024 candidates Chris Christie and Asa Hutchinson, who both polled at around 1 percent in a recent Quinnipiac survey, have been the most critical of Trump since he was indicted.
