Adam Schiff<\/h2>\n<p>The Republican-led House on Wednesday voted against formally rebuking Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/adam-schiff-faces-house-censure-vote-and-prospect-of-steep-fine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Adam Schiff<\/a> (D-CA) for playing up allegations of collusion between Russia and former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/donald-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Donald Trump<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty GOP lawmakers joined with a majority of Democrats in voting 225-196 in favor of tabling the resolution to censure and condemn Schiff, while seven members voted \u201cpresent\u201d and five did not cast a vote.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/meet-anna-paulina-luna-the-firebrand-conservative-who-wasnt-supposed-to-win\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Anna Paulina Luna<\/a> (R-FL) brought forward the privileged resolution, meant to be fast-tracked for consideration, and referred it to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/118th-congress\/house-resolution\/437\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">House Ethics Committee<\/a>. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/118\/bills\/hres489\/BILLS-118hres489ih.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">four-page resolution<\/a> mostly accused Schiff of abusing his position and telling falsehoods about the Russia matter, but also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-rejects-schiff-censure-seeking-hefty-fine\/\" title=\"House denies Schiff censure, seeks large fine.\">mentioned issues related<\/a> to the Ukraine-focused impeachment inquiry against Trump.<\/p>\n<p>But a sticking point among GOP holdouts appeared to be a clause that said Schiff should be fined millions of dollars if the ethics panel found that he lied and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/adam-schiff-faces-house-censure-vote-and-prospect-of-steep-fine\/\" title=\"Schiff may be censured and fined by House.\">abused sensitive information<\/a>. The $16 million fine it listed represents about half the cost of special counsel Robert Mueller\u2019s investigation into Russian election interference.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/thomas-massie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Thomas Massie<\/a> (R-KY) said Schiff acted \u201cunethically,\u201d but the measure was not constitutional because it would violate the 8th and 27th Amendments. Luna sought to clarify that the financial penalty in the motion was a \u201csuggested fine that can be paid with campaign funds, like any other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/vogue-magazine-lavishes-praise-on-jill-biden-at-the-olympics-her-star-power-will-save-faltering-games\/\" title=\"Vogue Magazine Lavishes Praise On Jill Biden At The Olympics: Her \u2018Star Power\u2019 Will Save \u2018Faltering Games\u2019\">fine levied<\/a> by Ethics,\u201d but that did not alleviate the concerns.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAllowing a majority of Congress to take $16 million (92 years of pay) from any member of Congress is shortsighted,\u201d Massie tweeted after the vote. \u201cCan we not imagine a time when this precedent would be used against conservatives? Fortunately it failed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Republicans have long accused Schiff, who served as chairman of the committee for four years, of being a repeat liar, particularly because he insisted there was evidence of collusion. GOP frustration with Schiff led House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to kick him off the intelligence panel earlier in January after Republicans took over control of the House. Schiff is now running for the seat held by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s partisan and failed attempt to censure me is a badge of honor that I will wear proudly,\u201d Schiff said in a tweet after the vote on Wednesday. \u201cMAGA Republicans are going after me because I dared to hold Donald Trump accountable. These efforts to intimidate me will not succeed.
