These charges include the alleged retention of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/joe-biden-rips-trump-for-doing-the-same-thing-the-obama-administration-did\/\" title=\"Joe Biden Rips Trump For Doing The Same Thing The Obama Administration Did\">national defense information<\/a>, obstruction of investigation, and lying to prosecutors in Special Counsel Jack Smith\u2019s investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Co-host Clay Travis pressed Pence to commit to pardoning Trump, arguing that the charges were politically motivated. However, former Trump Attorney General William Barr, who has defended Trump against other instances of political persecution, has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/pence-weighs-in-on-pardoning-trump-if-hes-convicted-in-federal-case\/\" title=\"Pence considers pardoning Trump if convicted federally.\">strongly refuted claims<\/a> that Trump is the victim in this case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, first off, these are serious charges,\u201d Pence responded. \u201cAnd as I said, I can\u2019t defend what\u2019s been alleged, but the president does deserve to make his defense. And I would say to each one of you, look, I\u2019ve been a former governor. I\u2019ve actually granted pardons to people and I take the pardon authority very seriously. It\u2019s an enormously important power of someone in an executive position. And I just think it\u2019s premature to have any conversation about that right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Travis criticized Pence&#8217;s decision to let the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/youngkin-sets-up-tip-line-for-parents-to-report-teachers-using-divisive-practices\/\" title=\"Youngkin Sets Up Tip Line For Parents To Report Teachers Using \u2018Divisive\u2019 Practices\">legal process play<\/a> out before making a decision, accusing him of not showing leadership. In response, Pence challenged Travis, asking if he knew the president&#8217;s defense and emphasizing the importance of believing in the judicial process and the rule of law.<\/p>\n<p>Travis took offense to Pence&#8217;s remarks, claiming that he was being disrespectful. And as Americans, we\u2019re innocent until proven guilty and I had the opportunity to review the indictment over the weekend. And I will tell you, these are serious charges and I can\u2019t defend what is alleged, but the president deserves his day in court.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pence also highlighted the years of politicization in the Department of Justice and expressed his belief that politics likely played a role in the case.
