Pritzker of Illinois <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcchicago.com\/news\/local\/pritzker-signs-illinois-law-to-ban-book-bans\/3159981\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">signed<\/a> a bill on Monday aimed at stopping book bans in public schools while standing in front of books that have been deemed sexually explicit and pornographic.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cBook bans are about censorship, marginalizing people and marginalizing ideas,\u201d Democrat Gov. Pritzker said at Chicago\u2019s Harold Washington Public Library.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Under the new legislation, libraries will not be eligible to receive state grants if they remove books from their collections or refuse to sign the American Library Association\u2019s Library <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ala.org\/advocacy\/intfreedom\/librarybill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bill of Rights<\/a>, which indicates \u201cmaterials should not be proscribed or removed because of partisan or doctrinal disapproval.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Controversial Books on Display<\/h3>\n<p>Pritzker signed the bill <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2023\/06\/13\/blue-state-gov-sexually-explicit-books-law-prohibiting-book-bans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in front<\/a> of a shelf of books that have been contested in other states over what some critics have described as pornographic content. Many of the books, including \u201cGender Queer\u201d by Maia Kobabe, feature explicit illustrations of sex acts. The shelf also showcased \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/13JH0x0ngP3xstxOHVmDRoFi2RGcQ2BiZ\/view\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">This Book is Gay<\/a>\u201d by Juno Dawson, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/illinois-gov-signs-bill-preventing-book-bans-while-standing-in-front-of-sexually-explicit-books\/\" title=\"Illinois governor signs bill to prevent book bans while surrounded by sexually explicit books.\">similarly features graphic sexual depictions<\/a>, and even provides detailed instructions for various sex acts. Dawson responded to critics, claiming the book is \u201cdefinitely not pornographic.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Support for the Bill<\/h3>\n<p>CEO of Equality Illinois Brian Johnson <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcchicago.com\/news\/local\/pritzker-signs-illinois-law-to-ban-book-bans\/3159981\/\">lauded<\/a> the bill, remarking, \u201cIf reading materials are denied to us, we are denied an opportunity to learn about ourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The legislation comes as parents across the country have objected to books like \u201cGender Queer\u201d and \u201cThis Book is Gay\u201d being featured in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/virginia-public-school-books-contain-images-too-pornographic-for-tv\/\" title=\"Virginia Public School Books Contain Images Too Pornographic for TV\">public school libraries<\/a>. Meanwhile in Florida, a law went into effect earlier this year <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox13news.com\/news\/gov-ron-desantis-florida-banning-books-is-a-nasty-hoax\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">requiring books<\/a> in school libraries to be approved by a librarian or media specialist. Those who provide pornographic books to students could be charged with a third degree felony.<\/p>\n<h3>Pritzker&#8217;s Connection to Transgender Activism<\/h3>\n<p>Gov. Pritzker is the cousin of Jennifer Pritzker, a transgender-identified billionaire who has been instrumental in the effort to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/pro-trans-propaganda-film-for-kids-is-sponsored-by-pharma-company\/\" title=\"Pro-Trans Propaganda Film for Kids Is Sponsored by Pharma Company\">normalize child transgenderism<\/a>. Jennifer Pritzker\u2019s Tawani Foundation contributed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globenewswire.com\/news-release\/2021\/07\/20\/2266015\/0\/en\/Col-Jennifer-Pritzker-Announces-Six-Figure-Donation-to-ACLU-to-Help-Fight-Anti-Trans-Laws.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">more than $100,000<\/a> to the ACLU to fight a Tennessee law banning the medical transition of minors. Pritzker also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/chicago\/news\/lurie-hospital-gender-identity-clinic-gets-500k-from-pritzker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gave $500,000<\/a> to the Lurie Children\u2019s Hospital\u2019s gender and sex development program in 2016. Pritzker also provided the initial grant money to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/shapiro-debunking-transgenderism\/\" title=\"SHAPIRO: Debunking Transgenderism\">gender identity clinic<\/a> when it first opened in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Pritzker\u2019s Tawani Foundation also donated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/social-justice\/2022\/09\/03\/foundation-run-trans-billionaire-funded-overnight-camp-trans-eight-year-olds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$25,000 to Harbor Camps<\/a>, an overnight summer camp for children as young as 8 years old who identify as \u201ctransgender or non-binary.\u201d Meanwhile, the foundation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/education\/2022\/12\/22\/private-school-gave-students-sex-toys-backed-foundation-gov-j-b-pritzkers-trans-sibling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gave $45,000<\/a> to Chicago\u2019s Francis W.
