Despite the indictment, Trump remains eligible to run for another term in the White House.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>The Charges Against Trump<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The charges against Trump stem from his handling of sensitive documents. Trump, while impeached by the House twice, was never convicted by the Senate.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>The 14th Amendment and Trump&#8217;s Eligibility<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The 14th Amendment includes a \u201cdisqualification clause\u201d intended to prevent former Confederate soldiers from holding office. Some on the Left <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/how-the-14th-amendment-could-prevent-trump-from-office-2021-2\">argue<\/a> that Trump should be barred from holding office based on the January 6 riot, which many claim was an \u201cinsurrection,\u201d but stopping Trump from running based on the 14th Amendment would have to take a long road through the courts and is unrelated to the indictment for his handling of classified documents.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Trump&#8217;s Pardon Power<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If Trump wins his second term in office, he could pardon himself, as the Constitution only stops a president from granting a pardon \u201cin cases of impeachment.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Trump Vows to Stay in the Race<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Despite the charges against him, Trump remains a leading contender in the 2024 GOP primary polls.
