Gavin Newsom\u2019s rosier description of California\u2019s economy in an interview that aired on June 12 with FOX News host Sean Hannity.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThis state\u2019s economy has outperformed the nation 3.1 percent in the last decade, and 2.1 percent nationwide,\u201d Newsom told Hannity when confronted with a list of companies that had moved out of the state.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5331726\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><\/noscript> Sean Hannity speaks during a live taping of \u201cHannity\u201d at FOX Studios in New York City on Jan. 13, 2023. (Theo Wargo\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThis state continues to be the tent pole of the American economy,\u201d Newsom said. \u201cWe\u2019re on our way to being the fourth-largest economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>However, a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/more-businesses-leaving-california-for-better-opportunities-in-other-states_5313442.html\">study<\/a> by the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce showed a different view of the state\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The study reported that California\u2019s population has been shrinking since 2020 and the number of departing companies nearly doubled from 2012 to 2019. Tesla, Hewlett Packard, Toyota, and many other companies have moved their headquarters from the state in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Golden State\u2019s luster appears tarnished in recent years,\u201d said the study authored by economists and academics with the Inland Empire Economic Center, an organization in southern California that works with prominent business and government leaders. \u201cA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/oscars-deny-zelenskys-request-to-appear-on-broadcast-for-second-year-in-a-row-report\/\" title=\"Oscars Deny Zelensky\u2019s Request To Appear On Broadcast For Second Year In A Row: Report\">seemingly endless stream<\/a> of firms is leaving the state, citing high taxation, heavy regulation, other business costs, and anything but a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/a-place-that-values-opportunity-security-and-freedom-gov-bill-lee-explains-why-americans-are-drawn-to-tennessee\/\" title=\"\u2018A Place That Values Opportunity, Security, And Freedom:\u2019 Gov. Bill Lee Explains Why Americans Are Drawn To Tennessee\">business-friendly environment<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>Lukewarm About Reparations<\/h2>\n<p>The Emerson College poll also revealed only about 50 percent of respondents approved of recommendations made last month made by the state\u2019s Reparations Task Force to pay black residents $1.2 million each. About 13 percent of those responding to the survey somewhat opposed the payments, while 37 strongly opposed it.<\/p>\n<p>Newsom told Hannity during Monday\u2019s interview the actual recommendation was $1.4 million in addition to taking several other steps.<\/p>\n<p>In a preliminary <a href=\"https:\/\/oag.ca.gov\/ab3121\/reports\">report<\/a> published on June 1 by the task force, it recommended paying each black resident money\u2014based on several qualifications\u2014for harm done during slavery and for conditions described as housing discrimination, disproportionate law enforcement, and discriminatory business policies, according to documents released by the task force (<a href=\"https:\/\/oag.ca.gov\/system\/files\/media\/ab3121-agenda10-ch17-draft-05062023.pdf\">pdf<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>The governor has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/gov-gavin-newsom-says-slavery-reparations-plan-about-more-than-cash-payments_5254755.html\">pushed back<\/a> against the recommendation and reiterated his concerns in his interview with Hannity.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIt doesn\u2019t have to be in the frame of writing a check,\u201d Newsom told Hannity. \u201cReparations come in many different forms. \u2026 I put out a statement saying reparations is more than just about money. That implies a deeper rationalization of what is achievable, what\u2019s reasonable, and what is right, and that\u2019s the balance that we\u2019ll try to advance.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The task force also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/california-voters-say-economy-is-most-important-issue-half-disapprove-of-reparation-payments-poll\/\" title=\"Californian voters prioritize economy, half disapprove of reparations: Poll.\">recommended creating free healthcare programs<\/a>, eliminating over-policing in black communities and racial disparities in police stops.<\/p>\n<p>A final report is expected to be submitted to the state Assembly on June 29.<\/p>\n<h2>Other Findings on Budget Deficit, Fentanyl Crisis, Sen. Feinstein<\/h2>\n<p>In other findings, an overwhelming number\u201480 percent\u2014of California voters who participated in the survey said they are very concerned or somewhat concerned about the state\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/california-deficit-expands-to-31-5-billion-newsom-proposes-broad-spending-cuts-in-revised-budget_5262925.html\">budget deficit<\/a>, which has ballooned to $31.5 billion.
