The panel subpoenaed Archer to be deposed as part of its investigation into what the letter called \u201cthe national security implications of a Vice President\u2019s or President\u2019s (and candidates for such offices) immediate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/chinese-communist-party-linked-company-funneled-over-1-million-to-biden-family-members-house-republicans-say\/\" title=\"Chinese Communist Party-Linked Company Funneled Over  Million To Biden Family Members, House Republicans Say\">family members receiving millions<\/a> of dollars from foreign nationals, foreign companies, or foreign governments without any oversight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Archer served on the board of the Ukrainian energy firm Burisma along with Hunter Biden. The subpoena comes not long after Archer lost his appeal of a prison sentence that followed his conviction on charges of conspiracy to commit securities fraud and securities fraud.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">NEW SUBPOENA<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepJamesComer?\">@RepJamesComer<\/a> subpoenaed Devon Archer, a Biden family associate, to appear for a deposition on Friday, June 16, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Archer\u2019s testimony is critical to the Committee\u2019s investigation as he was Hunter Biden\u2019s business partner in a number of transactions\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Oversight Committee (@GOPoversight) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GOPoversight\/status\/1668414384287236102?\">June 13, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>Why Archer&#8217;s Story Might Matter<\/h3>\n<p>Mirada Devine explained in a May Op-Ed in the New York Post why Archer\u2019s story might matter. \u201cArcher was present at meetings Hunter arranged for his foreign business partners to meet with his father or talk to him on the phone. He famously was photographed meeting the VP in his White House office weeks before Archer and Hunter joined the board of the corrupt Ukrainian energy company Burisma,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The letter to Archer\u2019s lawyer said it is \u201cinvestigating foreign nationals\u2019 attempts to target and coerce high-ranking U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/andrew-cuomos-5-worst-moves-as-new-yorks-governor\/\" title=\"Andrew Cuomo\u2019s 5 Worst Moves As New York\u2019s Governor\">officials\u2019 family members<\/a> by providing money or other benefits in exchange for certain actions, adding, \u201cThe Committee has identified Mr. Archer as possessing information relevant to its investigation and seeks your client\u2019s testimony regarding these and other related topics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBoth information that the Committee has reviewed and public reporting indicates that Mr. Archer played a significant role in the Biden family\u2019s business deals abroad, including but not limited to China, Russia, and Ukraine,\u201d the letter said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAdditionally, while undertaking these ventures with the Biden family, your client met with then-Vice President Biden on multiple occasions, including in the White House. Mr. Archer\u2019s testimony is critical to the Committee\u2019s investigation,\u201d the letter said.<\/p>\n<h3>Archer&#8217;s Conviction<\/h3>\n<p>In 2022, Archer was sentenced by Manhattan Judge Ronnie Abrams in February 2022 to one year and one day in prison. Archer was convicted of defrauding the Wakpamni Lake Community Corporation, a Native American tribal group, and other investors out of several million dollars. He was also ordered to forfeit $15,700,513 and to make restitution in the amount of $43,427,436 due to the financial scheme in which the Justice Department said Archer and his associates \u201cwere deceptively causing clients of asset management firms\u201d to purchase bonds issued by the tribe \u201cwhich the clients were then unable to redeem or sell because the bonds were illiquid and lacked a ready secondary market.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hunter Biden was not charged in connection with the scheme.<\/p>\n<p>The subpoena of Archer is a significant development in the investigation into the Biden family&#8217;s business dealings abroad.
