Matt Gaetz to Pursue Contempt of Congress Charges Against Manhattan Lawyer<\/h2>\n<div class=\"post_content\">\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cToday I\u2019m filing a resolution to hold Manhattan prosecutor Mark Pomerantz in contempt of Congress,\u201d Gaetz announced. \u201cI believe Mr. Pomerantz engaged in misconduct in his targeting of President Trump, and his refusal to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-reportedly-perplexed-by-kamala-harris-first-foreign-policy-trip\/\" title=\"White House Reportedly \u2018Perplexed\u2019 By Kamala Harris\u2019 First Foreign Policy Trip\">answer simple questions<\/a> should not go unpunished.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) is not backing down in his pursuit of justice. He plans to bring contempt of Congress charges against Mark Pomerantz, a Manhattan lawyer who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sinema-deals-ultimatum-to-biden-on-reconciliation-bill-report\/\" title=\"Sinema Deals Ultimatum To Biden On Reconciliation Bill: Report\">previously pushed<\/a> for former President Donald Trump\u2019s indictment on questionable charges.<\/p>\n<p>Pomerantz, who authored a book titled \u201cPeople vs. Donald Trump,\u201d was a Manhattan prosecutor under District Attorney (DA) Alvin Bragg. Pomerantz earlier led an investigation into Trump\u2019s finances but resigned in February 2022 because of Bragg\u2019s initial unwillingness to pursue a criminal case.<\/p>\n<p>In May, the House Oversight and Accountability Committee\u2014investigating Manhattan\u2019s decision to indict Trump on 34 felony counts\u2014questioned Pomerantz for six hours. But the lawyer, claiming Fifth Amendment protections, refused to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/49-days-without-a-biden-press-conference\/\" title=\"49 Days Without a Biden Press Conference\">answer substantive questions<\/a>, prompting frustration from Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>Pomerantz suggested that a GOP investigation into an unprecedented indictment of a former president of the United States was little more than \u201can act of political theater.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Gaetz is not deterred. He believes that Pomerantz engaged in misconduct and that his refusal to answer simple questions should not go unpunished.<\/p>\n<h3>Contempt of Congress Charges<\/h3>\n<p>Gaetz plans to pursue contempt of Congress charges against Pomerantz due to his lack of definitive answers during the May hearing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe lobbied his way onto a prosecutorial team as a private lawyer. He did all he could to gaslight charges against Donald Trump. When the evidence didn\u2019t support those charges, he initially got miffed and quit the team and wrote a book about it,\u201d Gaetz told Fox News.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow, he has the nerve to assert his Fifth Amendment privilege over these matters when he has clearly, explicitly, and repeatedly waived that privilege. Contempt is proper where someone refuses to answer Congress\u2019 questions under a frivolous assertion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pomerantz claimed Fifth Amendment protections, purportedly to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/rep-gaetz-to-advance-contempt-resolution-against-manhattan-lawyer-who-pushed-trump-indictment\/\" title=\"Gaetz to push contempt resolution against lawyer who pushed Trump indictment.\">protect confidential information<\/a>.
