Peters\">top defense officials<\/a> that \u201cfreedom of navigation\u201d patrols are provocation to China.<\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1\" style=\"min-width: 320px; min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">\n  <script>googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });<\/script>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<p>The Taiwan Strait is a 180-kilometer-wide strait separating the island of Taiwan and continental Asia.<\/p>\n<h3>China&#8217;s Defense Minister Warns of &#8220;Unbearable Disaster&#8221; for the World<\/h3>\n<p>General Li Shangfu said that China does not have any problems with \u201cinnocent passage,\u201d but that they \u201c\u2026Must prevent attempts that try to use those freedom of navigation (patrols), that innocent passage, to exercise hegemony of navigation.\u201d He also warned that any \u201csevere confrontation\u201d between the U.S. and China would be \u201can unbearable disaster for the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This warning came just hours after the U.S. accused the Chinese warship of cutting in front of an American vessel. In China we always say, \u2018Mind your own business.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said that the U.S. was stepping up and strategizing with \u201cfriends from the East China Sea, to the South China Sea, to the Indian Ocean,\u201d in order to \u201cdeter aggression and to deepen the rules and norms that promote prosperity and prevent conflict.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Li said that \u201cChina is open to communications between our two countries and also between our two militaries,\u201d but has declined to meet after a request from Austin.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cHistory has proven time and again that both China and the United States will benefit from cooperation and lose from confrontation,\u201d Li Said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChina seeks to develop a new type of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/japanese-pm-kishida-lays-out-indo-pacific-strategy\/\" title=\"Japanese PM Kishida Lays Out Indo-Pacific Strategy\">major-country relationship<\/a> with the United States.
