Trottenberg, who has no professional experience with the aviation industry, will take the helm amid a sharp uptick in near plane collisions, a trend that prompted the FAA to issue a &#8220;safety call to action&#8221; in February.<\/p>\n<p>Buttigieg has faced consistent criticism for his oversight of the Transportation Department. The <em>Washington Free Beacon<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/biden-administration\/buttigieg-vacationed-in-europe-as-rail-unions-were-on-verge-of-strike\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported last year<\/a> on his decision to take a European vacation in the midst of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-contradicts-karine-jean-pierres-talking-points-on-looming-rail-strike\/\" title=\"Biden Contradicts Karine Jean-Pierre's Talking Points on Looming Rail Strike\">looming rail strike<\/a> that would have crippled the economy. The inspector general <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/?post_type=post&#038;p=1696125\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">opened a probe<\/a> into Buttigieg\u2019s use of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/jonathan-emord-bidens-ticking-legacy-time-bomb\/\" title=\"Jonathan Emord: Biden\u2019s Ticking Legacy Time Bomb\">taxpayer funded flights<\/a> around the globe in February.<\/p>\n<p>A majority of Americans want Buttigieg to resign from his post, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/biden-administration\/poll-most-americans-want-buttigieg-to-quit-transportation-post\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">March poll<\/a>. His <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/failing-up-biden-to-tap-buttigieg-deputy-to-lead-flailing-federal-aviation-administration\/\" title=\"Biden chooses Buttigieg's deputy to head FAA.\">low approval ratings stem<\/a> from his response to incidents such as the East Palestine, Ohio, rail crash and a high number of flight cancellations <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/biden-administration\/four-months-after-buttigieg-promised-to-hold-them-accountable-southwest-delays-hundreds-of-flights\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">from carriers<\/a> such as Southwest Airlines.<\/p>\n<p>Trottenberg was deputy transportation security under former president Barack Obama and New York City\u2019s transportation commissioner. The FAA has not had a Senate-confirmed leader since the Trump administration.<\/p>\n<p>Biden nominated Phil Washington to the post, but he bowed out in March due to bipartisan concerns about his record. Washington\u2019s only aviation-related experience was a one-year stint as CEO of Denver International Airport.<\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/winred.tomcotton.com\/tom-cotton\/defend-scotus-ads-beacon?utm_source=rc&#038;utm_medium=beaconads&#038;utm_campaign=2023maybeaconscotus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/winred.tomcotton.com\/tom-cotton\/defend-scotus-ads-beacon?utm_source=rc&#038;utm_medium=beaconads&#038;utm_campaign=2023maybeaconscotus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h3>&#8220;This wasn&#8217;t the time for an administrator who needed on-the-job training,&#8221; Sen.
