McCarthy believes that it is their responsibility to oversee the FBI and that they have the right to look at the document, regardless of political affiliation.<\/p>\n<p>According to House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.), the FBI director is scheduled to brief him on Monday about the document. However, McCarthy says that this development only occurred because of the threat of contempt charges.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, the FBI refused to provide the document to members of Congress by a deadline that Comer had set. The bureau said that there were concerns about the confidentiality of informants and the fact that some tips were not verified.<\/p>\n<h3>Republicans&#8217; Longstanding Investigation<\/h3>\n<p>Over the years, Republicans have attempted to obtain information on Biden\u2019s and his family\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-secret-service-intervened-in-hunter-biden-gun-incident-lied-on-background-check-form-report-says\/\" title=\"BREAKING: Secret Service Intervened In Hunter Biden Gun Incident; Lied On Background Check Form, Report Says\">overseas business dealings<\/a>, asserting that they may pose ethical and legal problems for the president. In late 2020, the New York Post revealed the existence of a now-infamous laptop that was previously owned by his son Hunter Biden that contained messages and emails about business deals with a Chinese state-linked entity.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats have argued that Comer\u2019s claims are politically motivated. However, in a May 3 letter, Comer and Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) revealed they received \u201chighly credible unclassified whistleblower disclosures\u201d that the agency had a record that \u201cdescribes an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/senator-grassley-fbi-and-doj-will-damage-their-credibility-further-if-they-dont-cooperate-with-subpoena\/\" title=\"Grassley warns FBI and DOJ to cooperate with subpoena or risk credibility damage.\">alleged criminal scheme involving<\/a> then-vice president Joe Biden and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fbi-director-subpoenaed-after-whistleblower-reveals-criminal-scheme-involving-joe-biden\/\" title=\"FBI Director subpoenaed over whistleblower's disclosure of Joe Biden's 'criminal scheme'.\">foreign national relating<\/a> to the exchange of money for policy decisions.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>What&#8217;s Next?<\/h3>\n<p>It remains to be seen whether Wray will comply with the subpoena and provide the document to the House Oversight Committee.
