A 17-year-old Honduran boy died in U.S. government custody in Florida on May 10. A four-year-old from Honduras in the agency&#8217;s care at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, Mich., died on March 17 after going into cardiac arrest, the Department of Health and Human Services confirmed. A record number of children have crossed the border since President Joe Biden took office, the <em>Washington Post\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/immigration\/2023\/05\/22\/child-death-border-migrants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The \u00c1lvarez family was among the 10,000 migrants who crossed the border on May 9, two days before the <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/latest-news\/border-patrol-will-release-migrants-from-custody-the-minute-title-42-ends-officials-say\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">termination of Title 42<\/a>, a public health rule that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-admin-to-border-agents-prepare-for-the-flood\/\" title=\"Biden Admin to Border Agents: Prepare for the Flood\">allowed law enforcement<\/a> to quickly deport aliens. The Biden administration admitted that the massive influx of migrants could lead to &#8220;dangerous and potentially inhumane conditions in overcrowded border facilities,&#8221; according to\u00a0the <em>New York Times<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h3>Medical Negligence and CBP&#8217;s Response<\/h3>\n<p>Medical professionals at the Harlingen facility treated \u00c1lvarez 11 times in the week she was in custody but reportedly did not know \u00c1lvarez had a heart condition and sickle cell anemia, even though these conditions were on the family&#8217;s medical record. Nurses only heeded \u00c1lvarez&#8217;s mother&#8217;s multiple pleas for an ambulance after \u00c1lvarez had a seizure and became unresponsive. The girl died not long after arriving at the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>CBP acting commissioner Troy Miller said in a Monday <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbp.gov\/newsroom\/speeches-and-statements\/statement-cbp-acting-commissioner-troy-miller-regarding-ongoing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> that &#8220;we must ensure that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/eight-year-old-migrant-girl-died-in-overcrowded-border-facility-due-to-poor-medical-care-cbp-investigation-found\/\" title=\"CBP investigation reveals poor medical care caused death of 8-year-old migrant girl in overcrowded border facility.\">medically fragile individuals receive<\/a> the best possible care and spend the minimum amount of time possible in CBP custody.&#8221; In a Thursday <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbp.gov\/newsroom\/speeches-and-statements\/statement-cbp-acting-commissioner-troy-miller-investigation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>, he said the agency has taken steps to fix the facility&#8217;s &#8220;deficiencies,&#8221; which led to the &#8220;deeply upsetting&#8221; and &#8220;unacceptable&#8221; tragedy.<\/p>\n<h3>Take Action<\/h3>\n<p>This heartbreaking incident highlights the urgent need for better medical care and conditions for migrants at the southern border.
