This is a significant increase compared to the combined arrest totals from fiscal years 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020. <\/p>\n<p>According to data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the number of suspected terrorists arrested in April alone was five times the three watch list apprehensions listed for all of FY 2019 and FY 2020. This is a concerning trend that needs to be addressed.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThese reported arrests raise serious questions about the security of our Southwest border and the potential for terrorists to take advantage of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-immigration-policies-help-terrorists-take-advantage-of-glaring-vulnerabilities-at-border-lawmakers-say\/\" title=\"Lawmakers claim Biden's immigration policies create opportunities for terrorists to exploit border vulnerabilities.\">glaring vulnerabilities due<\/a> to the Biden-Harris administration\u2019s open-border policies,\u201d the Republicans wrote.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Despite the Biden administration and corporate media\u2019s attempts to downplay the ongoing border crisis, internal alarm over the escalating number of terror watch list members caught entering the U.S. prompted CBP in April of 2022 to create an \u201cEnforcement Statistics\u201d page detailing all of its agents\u2019 \u201cTerrorist Screening Data Set Encounters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As Todd Bensman, the Center for Immigration Studies\u2019 Texas-based senior national security fellow, writes, \u201cremember that not all <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/more-suspected-terrorists-found-illegally-crossing-southern-border-in-april-than-in-four-trump-years-combined\/\" title=\"April saw more suspected terrorists illegally crossing the southern border than in Trump's entire presidency.\">terrorism-linked \u2018special interest aliens\u2019 coming<\/a> from nations of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/blackburn-introduces-amendments-to-counter-china-and-iran\/\" title=\"Blackburn Introduces Amendments to Counter China and Iran\">national security concern<\/a> get as far as nomination and approval for the FBI terrorism watch list, which involves a lengthy, multi-tiered process.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>The Importance of Addressing the Border Crisis<\/h3>\n<p>While the number of suspected terrorists captured by border agents may be small compared to the number of illegal border crossers, it is still important. The FBI\u2019s Terrorist Screening Center notes that everyone listed on the watchlist is \u201creasonably suspected to be involved in terrorism (or related activities)\u201d and most \u201care not Americans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Because these people \u201chave no known connection to the U.S.,\u201d their increased presence at the southwest and northern borders of the nation, where overwhelmed border agents struggle to keep up with the years-long influx of migrants, is suspect.<\/p>\n<h3>What Needs to Be Done<\/h3>\n<p>Republicans on the House Committee on Homeland Security sent a letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and FBI Director Christopher Wray in late May demanding information about suspected terrorists, specifically an Afghan national and a Pakistani national, who were caught trying to cross the U.S.-Mexico border in May.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese reported arrests raise serious questions about the security of our Southwest border and the potential for terrorists to take advantage of the glaring vulnerabilities due to the Biden-Harris administration\u2019s open-border policies,\u201d the Republicans wrote.<\/p>\n<p>It is crucial that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/uk-government-borrows-more-than-expected-in-august\/\" title=\"UK government borrows more than expected in August\">government takes action<\/a> to address the border crisis and prevent potential national security threats from entering the country.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-author-description fst-italic\">Jordan Boyd is a staff writer at The Federalist and co-producer of The Federalist Radio Hour.
