Jim Jordan (R-OH), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, has written a letter to Garland, urging him to take action in light of Durham\u2019s findings related to the faulty origin of the Trump-Russia investigation and the \u201cfailings\u201d of the FBI. Jordan argues that \u201cdue to the FBI\u2019s documented <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-grants-26-pardons-and-3-commutations-includes-numerous-prominent-names\/\" title=\"Trump Grants 26 Pardons And 3 Commutations, Includes Numerous Prominent Names\">political bias<\/a>, the Justice Department must ensure any ongoing investigations are not poisoned by this same politicization.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>The need for accountability and reforms within the FBI<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cThe Special Counsel\u2019s report serves as a stark reminder of the need for more accountability and reforms within the FBI,\u201d Jordan said of Durham. \u201cAccordingly, as Congress conducts oversight to inform these legislative reforms, we write to ensure the Justice Department act to preserve the integrity and impartiality of ongoing investigations from the FBI\u2019s politicized bureaucracy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Durham is scheduled to testify before the House Judiciary Committee on June 21, and will also speak behind closed doors with the House Intelligence Committee, led by Rep. Mike Turner (R-OH), the day prior.<\/p>\n<h3>Questions for Garland<\/h3>\n<p>Jordan has asked Garland to provide his committee with information about Smith\u2019s use of the FBI, including whether any FBI employees who have worked on Smith\u2019s investigation have previously worked on other investigations tied to Trump. Jordan also told the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-ag-barr-authorizes-federal-prosecutors-to-pursue-substantial-allegations-of-voting-irregularities-before-2020-election-is-certified\/\" title=\"BREAKING: AG Barr Authorizes Federal Prosecutors to Pursue \"Substantial Allegations\" of Voting Irregularities Before 2020 Election is Certified\">attorney general<\/a> to reveal the number of FBI employees assigned to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/historic-significance-of-georgia-senate-contests\/\" title=\"Historic Significance of Georgia Senate Contests\">special counsel investigation<\/a>, including the number of employees from FBI Headquarters and the Washington Field Office working on it.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan also asked Garland to \u201cexplain whether Special Counsel Smith\u2019s investigation relies on any information or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-mar-a-lago-investigation-may-be-poisoned-by-fbi-bias-durham-exposed-jordan\/\" title=\"FBI bias may taint Trump's Mar-a-Lago probe, warns Jordan after Durham's revelation.\">material gathered exclusively<\/a> by the FBI prior to the Special Counsel\u2019s appointment.\u201d He asked for all of these answers by June 15.<\/p>\n<h3>Low public trust in the FBI<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cPublic trust in the FBI is low,\u201d Jordan told Garland. \u201cRecent examples of political bias in FBI and Department of Justice operations show that the so-called \u2018corrective measures\u2019 the FBI instituted after Crossfire Hurricane have done nothing to address, let alone cure, the institutional rot that pervades the FBI.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jordan also asked Garland to arrange a briefing by Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco with the committee about matters related to Durham\u2019s report, including on any \u201cremedial measures\u201d the Justice Department \u201chas implemented to address the misconduct described in the report.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Durham&#8217;s lengthy and &#8220;sobering&#8221; report concluded the FBI had no proper basis to launch the controversial 2016 election inquiry, which soon transformed into special counsel Robert Mueller\u2019s sprawling investigation. The report also revealed the lack of clear evidence of Trump-Russia collusion, pointed to the Russian links behind British ex-spy Christopher Steele\u2019s dossier, and concluded that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton\u2019s campaign played an outsize role in pushing such collusion claims to the media and the FBI.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe extent of the FBI\u2019s bias and reckless disregard for the truth, which Special Counsel Durham laid out in painstaking detail, is nothing short of scandalous,\u201d Jordan wrote to Garland. \u201cThe FBI has tried to dismiss the report\u2019s findings by claiming to have \u2018already implemented dozens of corrective actions\u2019 to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/exclusive-jim-jordan-probes-fbi-role-in-trump-special-counsel-investigation\/\" title=\"Jim Jordan investigates FBI's involvement in Trump's special counsel investigation.\">prevent similar misconduct<\/a> in the future.
