However, his comments about killing babies are scientifically inaccurate. Unborn children are called fetuses after the embryo stage and before birth, according to Medline Plus.<\/p>\n<p>Trump also emphasized the importance of exemptions from bans in the interest of political viability. &#8220;You know, I happen to be of the Ronald Reagan school in terms of exemptions where you have the life of the mother, rape, and incest,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<h3>Trump Responds to Critics<\/h3>\n<p>Trump responded to critics who claim they have done more on abortion than him. &#8220;Only stupid people would say that because everyone said there was no way that Roe v. Wade was going to disappear,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>The Supreme Court overturned Roe with the ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women&#8217;s Health Organization in June 2022, returning jurisdiction over abortion laws to the states. Three of the six Supreme Court justices in the majority opinion were appointed by Trump.<\/p>\n<h3>2024 Primary Election Season<\/h3>\n<p>Trump has consistently led the GOP field in the polls, with Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) in a close second behind him. Other candidates, including Nikki Haley, Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), and Vivek Ramaswamy, among others, are far behind the two Florida men.
