The House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer of Kentucky announced Wray\u2019s intransigence on Tuesday, according to a news release on the website of the committee.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\n<p>The FBI will not provide the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/marjorie-taylor-greene-attacks-biden-criminal-family-and-says-oversight-will-hold-wray-in-contempt\/\" title=\"Greene slams Biden's 'criminal family' and threatens to hold Wray in contempt.\">unclassified documents subpoenaed<\/a> by the Committee. James Comer (@RepJamesComer) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepJamesComer\/status\/1663646523182252033?\">May 30, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWhile I have a call scheduled with FBI Director Wray tomorrow to discuss his response further, the Committee has been clear in its intent to protect Congressional oversight authorities and will now be taking steps to hold the FBI Director in contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with a lawful subpoena,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmericans deserve the truth, and the Oversight Committee will continue to demand transparency from this nation\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-pushed-doj-officials-to-back-claims-that-the-election-was-stolen-documents-show\/\" title=\"Trump Pushed DOJ Officials To Back Claims That The Election Was Stolen, Documents Show\">chief law enforcement agency<\/a>,\u201d Comer continued.<\/p>\n<p>If the full House votes to find Wray in criminal contempt of Congress, and either the Department of Justice or the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office for the District of Columbia prosecute the case, he could face penalties of up to 12 months in jail or a $100,000 fine, according to findlaw.com.<\/p>\n<p>If no prosecution takes place, Congress can file a civil suit in federal court and, if successful, can obtain whatever was denied to Congress initially.<\/p>\n<p>Moving ahead with the charge is supported by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, according to the Washington Times.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will move contempt charges against Christopher Wray and the FBI. They are not above the law,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have jurisdiction over the FBI, which they seem to act like we do not. I personally called Director Wray and told him he needed to send that document. Based on those disclosures, it has come to our attention that the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) possess an unclassified FD-1023 form that describes an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/senator-grassley-fbi-and-doj-will-damage-their-credibility-further-if-they-dont-cooperate-with-subpoena\/\" title=\"Grassley warns FBI and DOJ to cooperate with subpoena or risk credibility damage.\">alleged criminal scheme involving<\/a> then-Vice President Biden and a foreign national relating to the exchange of money for policy decisions,\u201d the letter said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe FBI has continued to tie itself in knots to ignore a legitimate subpoena from Congress, which has a constitutional duty of oversight.
